I was in the car with my Mother and the radio was on and the presenter stared talking about impure things. Should I of turned the radio off? I didn’t put it on. I tried to pray a Hail Mary but I couldn’t block out his words. Is this a Mortal sin on my part?

There are too many variables to what constitutes a grievous matter for it to be answered with just the given. It might indeed be a mortal sin in one situation, and not in another. Was it your radio or your mothers? Was she listening to the program? Would she have allowed you to turn it off? Did she seem to be influenced by it or bothered by it? How do you personally feel about it? Did it wound your relationship with God? Did it wound hers?

The list goes on and on. I would go to reconciliation and talk to my confessor about it.

As in prior posts, I encourage you to seek regular spiritual direction from your priest to combat your scrupulosity.

It is laudible that you wanted to protect your mother and yourself from the impure speech you heard on the radio. If in future you know that this program is going to be on, ask your mother if you can switch the station because you don’t like to hear such harsh talk. Maybe your mother was concentrating on her driving and wasn’t aware of what was being said, otherwise she may have switched the station herself. I don’t think you committed a sin, but best not to ignore your instincts the next time. God bless.

Yes I have the tendency to be scrupulous saying a minor mishap is a sin.
My Mother isn’t religious so I doubt that sort of thing troubled her and as she is a little in opposition to my Faith may of reacted badly if I had turned the station.

Many Thanks
