Before I became serious about my faith, I started reading the Book of Mormon just out of curiosity. I couldn’t even get past the first few pages. I got the sensation of reading a census list from the Old Testament, but without the comfort of it being true. Eventually, I came back to Christ and entered the Catholic Church.
I am wondering now if I should read the Book of Mormon, not to determine if its true, but instead to better understand the Mormon people and religion. I have read many explanations of Mormon belief and practice from a Catholic apologetics standpoint, and so I feel I have a good grasp on LDS belief. Should I read the Book of Mormon to try and gain a deeper understanding of the Mormon faith since it is the pivotal book for that religion?
