Hey everyone,

Today, I had went to confession, and received absolution.
However, I had just been reading To Kill a Mockingbird, a book we’re reading in school. I had a bad thought about reading a verse, but I did it anyway. Did I lose my grace? Also, am I being scrupulous? Sorry if I am. Please pray for me, thanks.

It sounds like you may be scrupulous. You should discuss this with your priest. But, to me, it doesn’t sound like anything that should keep you from receiving Holy Communion.

I think you may have an issue with scrupulosity. You should find your local priest and have him help you with this issue. But more importantly why would strangers on the internet be able to determine your reception of communion? Is that asking us to judge you?

1394 As bodily nourishment restores lost strength, so the Eucharist strengthens our charity, which tends to be weakened in daily life; and this living charity wipes away venial sins.231 By giving himself to us Christ revives our love and enables us to break our disordered attachments to creatures and root ourselves in him:
Code:
Since Christ died for us out of love, when we celebrate the memorial of his death at the moment of sacrifice we ask that love may be granted to us by the coming of the Holy Spirit. We humbly pray that in the strength of this love by which Christ willed to die for us, we, by receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, may be able to consider the world as crucified for us, and to be ourselves as crucified to the world. . . . Having received the gift of love, let us die to sin and live for God.232
I think what you did was a venial sin. You can still receive communion if you have committed venial sin.

I would read everything under heading: IV. THE GRAVITY OF SIN: MORTAL AND VENIAL SIN in the following link: vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p3s1c1a8.htm

You had a bad thought. The thought popped into your mind. You had no control over that. The question you need to ask yourself - did you dwell on it, allow it to continue. You can’t help the thought popping into your mind, but you can help continuing it and leading you into sin.

When a bad thought enters your mind, just quickly say Sorry, Lord. and, perhaps, mentally say a Hail Mary for purity.
