Since you don’t believe or agree with their doctrine, you should abstain.
Make a Spiritual Communion even if the Blessed Sacrament is not present.
My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
You could tell your wife that you have abstained because you have some serious issues that are between God and yourself and that until you have them resolved, you do not feel you can participate in her communion. Cite Scripture that says if you take the Body and Blood unworthily or without discerning, you bring damnation upon yourself. Make sure she knows that you do not love her any less and appeal to her love for you in understanding that you are undergoing something momentous and that even if you do become a Catholic, it will not change your love for her.
It may be that your wife will never understand what you are going through, but it is God who calls you. Help her to understand that you cannot ignore God’s call. Do this gently and with compassion and invite her to come along with you on your journey. This way, she will know that her relationship with you is not at risk, that you still love her and want to be with her for the rest of your life.
Do contact your local parish and ask about joining RCIA. Speak with the priest about the difficulties you are having with your family.
