Should I say "Amen" before receiving the Eucharist at Latin Mass?

Would it be wrong not to say Amen in the NO?
I was publicly chastised once for not saying “Amen” quickly enough at an NO Mass. I was literally the last person in the Communion line, and when I approached the priest for Communion, I hesitated in saying the “Amen,” b/c the priest was still holding the host next to his chest after saying “The Body of Christ.” I was used to being offered the host as the priest or LEM said “The Body of Christ,” and for a second I was caught off guard. I was a brand new Catholic in a foreign church, and I thought for a moment that the priest wasn’t going to give me Communion for some reason. He just looked at me w/ this sober look and held the host. All this happened within a couple of seconds, and then he said, very loudly so the whole congregation could hear: “The correct response is ‘Amen!’ When I say ‘The Body of Christ,’ you say ‘Amen!’” I was so humiliated, and I did not go to Mass at that church again.

Yeah, you know, you’re right. I forgot that part.

Most priests are placing the Blessed Sacrament on your tongue WHILE they simultaneously say the prayer, so you need to be “ready to receive” well before he says Amen.
What part of the world are You from, I hardly see anyone receive on the tongue, & I go to three different Catholic Churches. There are a few who do receive on the tongue

We are discussing what happens at the Tridentine Latin Mass. 🙂

Yes, since the priest is waiting for your affirmation of belief before he gives you the Host.
Yes, but really, because this is one place where the rubrics do directly address the congregation. The communicant is directed to say “Amen” and so he should do so.

I always receive Communion on the tongue.

After hearing I must always say Amen at the mass or else I will not receive communion and now hearing I cannot say it, but hey it’s ok because many people make the “mistake”. I’m confused, is this the universal church?

The revival of the latin mass is creating a divide in the church. Same for host in hands or on tongue. I was told no tongue, only hands, now the latin mass is only tongue? Am I making a mountain out of a mole his or do these things matter?

You were told wrong — along with the Latin Mass creating a divide.

Methodi, what part of the world are YOU from? I belong to a large, metropolitan church and one rarely sees any person take the Host in his hand.

I hate that practice and have never done it. Of course, I grew up in a time when a lay person would not dream of touching a host.

😦
