Should I shave my beard?

you should act manfully and decisively in this situation;
  1. you should compromise and shave half it off.
  2. roll bits of wax in the beard and set it on fire.
  3. put curlers in it, like the ancient persians.

"You complain that my last letter does not make it clear whether I regard being in love as a desirable state for a human or not. But really, Wormwood, that is the sort of question one expects them to ask! Leave them to discuss whether “Love”, or patriotism, or celibacy, or candles on altars, or teetotalism, or education, are “good” or “bad”. Can’t you see there’s no answer? Nothing matters at all except the tendency of a given state of mind, in given circumstances, to move a particular patient at particular moment nearer to the Enemy or nearer to us."
Maybe I’m biased because I like the Screwtape Letters so much, but I think this last line is the best advice for this situation and really every decision we make.

You could try a compromise if you like to have a beard. I grow a beard in the winter months…usually 2 months…3 max…and then shave the rest of the year (though I usually do keep my chin-hair year-round). 🙂

Or maybe just look like a man without a beard? :rolleyes: How utterly shallow to define “manliness” as having a beard.

Jala
I did not define it as manliness. But it is a fact that a beard is a secondary sexual characteristic of mature males, and its removal must make an individual look less like a mature male and more like a woman or a child. I do not object to anyone doing this, just as I would not object to men plucking their eyebrows or doing whatever it is that women do to eye lashes to make them look like spiders in a mosh pit. But there can be no doubt about where the full shaving of a beard places one on the male-female or child-adult spectrums.
