Should I stay or should I go?

ACBishop: if I were you, I’d go to the Mass out of decent respect for the memory of my loved one; that person would be important to me.

I would not expect to receive communion, nor would I be put off by not being invited to communion. That’s a rule of the Church you’re visiting; I’ve attended Jewish events and have gratefully received instruction in how to properly behave.

Personally, I do not know you, but the general tone of your comments here indicate to me, at least, that your temperment might be a real problem for you. Humility is an important thing; highly educated people often have problems in this area. For my part, I have come to recognize that I don’t have the answers to every question, nor have a prolonged study of theology, and I am willing to accept the judgment and opinions of my superiors in this area.

I like very much Burnside’s comments above; I was an altar boy who had a pretty rough priest to work with. In my experience, I have seen many people who SIMPLY BECAUSE of ONE rude person, be put off entirely by that person’s religioin. To me, that’s shooting a messenger while ignoring the facts of the message.

I cannot agree with what you said here. I am not RC by virtue of my own freewill. Why would I want to come back to the RC and confess? And, confess for what, finding in the Episcopal church what I never found in 34 years as a Catholic? I don’t think so and what’s even more, I’m sure God doesn’t think so either. The RC is losing members left and right and I think that the more folks become more involved in what God wants from them and what God means for all of us, they will continue to leave the RC and do what I have done and begin to feel the spirit elsewhere.
You do not have to agree with what the Catholic Church teaches. In fact, you have made it very clear that you do not agree with different aspects of Church teaching. I just thought you would like to know what the Church teaches about your situation since you are here on the Catholic Answers message board.

God bless you.

ACbishop, you are in no place to be talking about losing members. The TEC is one of the fastest sinking denominations in Christianity. Your church has been corrupted by secularism, liberalism, and trust me, the sexual abuse is there in your denomination. To deny that is crazy. You seem to get mad that we disagree with your views however, you have come pretty close to insulting ours. Thank you.
I must say that some of the ridiculous claims that you make and some of the responses that you give to questions asked of you or of the Catholic faith does a pretty thorough job of making yourself look skeptical at best.

Do you deny the TEC to be shrinking? from 4M to 2.5M in 20 years?

I agree.

To the OP ~ If being an Episcopalian is all that for you and you don’t give two hoots what the RCC says, WHY do you ask the opinions of Catholics regarding your dilema?
Because maybe just maybe I would get some opinions that went beyond the, “we are valid and you aren’t” realm and just dealt with a perspective of personality and perrogative. I only found a couple of responses that met my expectations and were helpful. The rest of them were just too wrapped and wound around your Catholic blinders to even care about giving a person to person honest opinion. I should have really been expecting those, I was born and raised Catholic and didn’t have enough self integrity to get out until I was in my 30’s.

No, although leaving the Catholic church is no small matter.

The fact you have been awake and conscious for three years is a pretty good indication that you have sinned at some point thereby needing confession - which is demanded at least once a year in the Catholic Church. Mother Theresa went daily. Many are advocating weekly and bi-weekly. Its just plain good for the soul.

So pleae don’t jump to conclusions and be offended.

And I am not casting stones - I sin daily - which is why I go weekly!
HELLO— I am NOT Catholic! I am Episcopalian. I couldn’t care less if you think I have sinned or not. Mother Theresa was a fine example of a Christian, not because she was Catholic but because of her character and her faith and love for God. I did not find God in the Catholic church in thirty some years. I have been completely moved by the spirit in the Episcopal church. Call it whatever you wish, I call it walking with Jesus like it was never possible to know before.

Our (CC) sacramental theology believe form matter and intent to be very important in the administration of the sacraments. It is the judgement of the Catholic Church and the Orthodox that the BCP’s theology and prayers for the consecration of bishops and ministers in the CofE does not a commitment to the sacrament of Holy Orders - therein lies the problem.

No valid orders means no sacraments available but marriage and baptism.

No need for caps-shouting.

I know you are not Catholic. I don’t see how that is germaine to my point. To recieve in the Catholic Church - something you are bothered about being unable to do - you must be prepared with confession. Plain and simple.

For knowing Jesus so well and walking with Him - why be bothered so by this?

This begs the question - if you are unwilling to accept the CC’s teachings on these matters, why do you want to commune therein?

Who said it owns you or has a lease on God?
It appears that you have never considered the fact that the body and blood of Christ is something that he gave. It is not something owned by the Catholic church to be dispersed among whomever they wish. This is the reason why any baptized Christian can receive in our church. It is a sad sad thing that Catholics believe that only they are blessed in such a way.

That’s your problem, not our’s nor God’s…

You folks have quite a knack for attempting to twist the issue and subject matter. I am speaking of the Anglican Communion, not TEC by itself. And you knew that.

Interestingly world Catholocism & US Catholocism is growing…

Do you deny, however that TEC is shrinking and is likely about to be seperated from TAC?

They may very well separate and that’s fine. You Catholics would just love to stick that feather in your cap as well if they did walk apart. It would just be another piece of proof that Protestants will just keep on spliting and spliting.

Your words, not mine.

Of course, it certainly would not be evidence to the contrary.

In the general world of Protestantism, if you disagree with your pastor, make your own church with their own doctrines… and set of belief.
