Should I tell the priests about the practising gays in the congregation?

Do you think that 123Strontium is a troll wannabe? Why else would you post this on a forum for believers in Christ’s Gospels? In addition, the OP has not answered any posts which is somewhat of a clue.

There is a practising gay couple in the congregation, one of the men is camp and effeminate and his partner is slightly younger, (looks nothing like him) I’ve seen them look at each other amorously, not in the normal way.

Should I tell the Priests about them? They shouldn’t be taking Communion if they are openly embracing mortal sin.
The priest has eyes; if he thinks there is a problem, he will handle it without you. When it comes to Communion, try focusing on Jesus in the Eucharist and not your neighbors.

And what will they (the priests) do after you spill the beans? If these parishoners choose to sin; they’re going to sin. They are already mortally sinning…

If they choose to recieve the Eucharist in a state of mortal sin, that is between themselves and The Almighty. He will judge them as He wishes. It is not up to us.

If they (the parishoners) are not harming anyone other than themselves, you should keep it to yourself. It is also a sin to gossip.

If you are anything like the rest of us, you have enough sin on your own plate to keep you busy for the rest of your own life. After we achieve sinlessness for ourselves, then we can focus on the sinfulness of others.

That’s MY two-cents…

God bless.

A troll wannabe or a ‘Bartha Betterthenyou’ or maybe just somebody with a trolly side.

First thing is, OP needs to turn down his gaydar. It must have had a power surge.

Second thing is, OP needs to quit watching the pews and keep his eye on what’s going on up at the altar.

You know that behaviour that 2 people in love have, or love partners have. It was that kind of look they have for each other. UNMISTAKABLE!!!
If it is so obvious to you, the priests will also have noticed it. So called ‘love looks’ can be misinterpreted, easily.
It’s disrespectful to take communion in sin. It feels like they are contaiminating the church.
They are not contaminating anything. No more than I am when I go to church having missed Mass for no good reason the previous week or lost my temper with a colleague during the week or told a whole bunch of lies. You have no way of knowing that I’m in the line for communion having committed and not confessed and repented of those sins.
I want to go to a church and have it feel like it’s a clean place with moral people.
In 6 decades, many churches, many denominations, different countries…I have yet to find a church such as you would like to attend.
Everyone sins, yes, but homosexual sins are especially dirty. It’s in the book of Leviticus.
Sin is sin - all sin separates us from God.

Before or after your confession for being a voyeur? How else did you determine they were ***practising *** if you don’t personally know them?

This is actually a serious problem.

I don’t know the answer. Most married Catholics who attend Mass weekly are either sterilized or on artificial birth control. That’s self-reported information on every poll asking about it in the last decade. Throw in the abortion supporters, the people in irregular marriages who still receive Holy Communion, and others, and you realize that the time during Holy Communion is one big sacrilege.

The question is, indeed, what should be done about it. The answer at my parish is absolutely nothing.

I don’t know. I guess I feel like the older brother in the Parable of the Prodigal Son, only the prodigal has brought his life of dissipation into the Church instead of repenting.

I’d be curious if anyone has found a document from the Church addressing this.

Hi all,

I am in the same situation. 2 of my choir members are gay couple. Don’t ask me why I am too sure as they stay with each other. They even have a facebook account posting pictures and statuses showing that they are happily in love. Still, they get communion every week. I am also sure that other members are aware of this and they are all quite open.
I just joined the choir for 1 year and I am gay myself. I just mind my own business. I don’t know if it is the right way to do. Even if I have to do something else, I don’t know what to do.

No. Their behaviour is a matter for them and God.

OP, your parish does not need a “Harper Valley PTA” moment, touched off by you. No parish needs a network of mortal sin spies, each doing his or her part, unbidden by the pastor, in the surveillance work. If the priest wants to know if certain members of his parish are giving scandal, he is totally capable of asking them directly and privately what they mean by any problematic behaviors that occur in public. He also has powers of observation every bit as keen as yours.

If anyone in your parish starts *voicing *opinions in opposition to the teaching authority of the Church, tell your pastor that. Otherwise, presume that anything short of insubordination behind his back is something he can find out for himself, if he is so inclined.

Now I feel bad for the opening poster in that the number of blunt replies they have had when they were actually asking a question what they should do. Our Christian Charity in understanding has gone off the rails a little bit in that yes we are accepting that the opening poster shouldnt tell but we could be a little bit more feeling toward the opening poster. Imagine how ‘you’ would feel at a similar line of threads posted to one of ‘your own’ question and all they actually want to know is ‘should they’? We have rather hammered home that they shouldn’t. If anyone reading this post before they post their own reply could they please stop a little and give a little thought to that is it yet another moral lesson to why they shouldn’t tell without any proper feeling given to the opening poster. I am sure they will have got the message by now after three pages of saying ‘don’t tell’. there isn’t any mixed messages here but aren’t we going to town a little bit too much and now we need to give a little feeling or too to the opening poster who probably didn’t expect such a bombshell of response. Ooooh we can be so judgemental when we want to can’t we, one way or other? Well the opening poster has got their answer and can we leave it at that without burdening them too much. After all I thought you guys were strict about various teachings so it is refreshing to read that most of you who posted here would actually go against the teaching and that is nice to read in this circumstance because it does mean there is a definate change but next time we hammer home that church states, remember our replies here please and give the opening poster a break now because there has been one long clear message and that is no- don’t tell.

The end:blush:

Exactly what teaching are we all going against? Did I miss the one that says we should all make it our business to report sinners or something?

Uh, yeah. I was wondering the same thing. We Catholics have enough trouble “reporting” our own sins, let alone policing other people’s.
