One of my young Priest who is the chaplain of the Bible Society in my diocese has been lamenting all the time that Lectors Ministry in the diocese should be under the Bible Society because they deal with the Scripture. The Chaplain of Lectors did not agree anyway. It wasn’t an official argument because the Bishop is not told about it and it is also not a fight but come to think of it.
  1. Should Lectors group be under Bible society or it is Bible society that should be under Lectors.
  2. Is Lector Ministry not already a Bible group or even the society.
  3. Is this not just a nomenclature tussle?

It is the preference of your young priest. Guess there is a tussle between the chaplains of Bible society and the lectors respectively. Not all parishes have the same set up.

Bible studies serves any and all parish members. Lector function comes out of service to the liturgy.

I can understand the priest wants the lectors to grow spiritually and he may view that best accomplished under the ministry of bible studies, however it’s just one of the skills/abilities needed for lectors.

Imo spiritual growth for lectors should be specific to their ministry, to the individuals and/or the liturgy group.
