Should "Mass" always be capitalized?

I was taught that when referring to the Catholic Mass in writing, you always used an upper case “M”.
My Pastor says no – who is correct?

You are correct. Your pastor is wrong and should know better.
Nothing on the face of the earth has greater significance than the Mass.
