Should men grow beards?

Soo, given all the traffic about the horrors of women and pants, let’s talk about a more primal issue - Should all men who are able to grow beards? They are after all a real sign of masculinity, the OT suggests that indeed men ought to. The Orthodox, while not demanding it is necessary, encourage it strongly. Even Screwtape suggests the fashion for shaving may be a way of removing or de-emphasizing basic gender differences.
 
I certainly hope not. Although I am not at the age where I can grow a full beard, visualizing it in my head makes myself look significantly less civilized than I do now. (That’s just on me, I’m not saying all people with beards are uncivilized :))
 
I think the real question is should women with facial hair wear pants?
 
I can only pray that beards become the social norm. That way I can stop the sadistic ritual of shaving.

I love my beard and it’s a shame to have to shave it off to fit a social norm.
 
Almost all grown men grow beards.

The real question is why do some shave them off!

I believe that God knows what a grown man’s face is supposed to look like.

No, you’ve got that backwards. Men should grow traditional beards and wear traditional clothing–a robe.

Women should cover their hair so they have veils to laugh behind as the men trip going up and down stairs. 😛
 
Beards:

Plus points: Marks you definitively as a man.

I noticed a subtle change of attitude towards me when I walked into shops. I think it says you don’t care about looking boyish or effeminate any more (or you just don’t give a d*mn).

I’ve been told it makes me look more ‘distinguished’, and older.

Negative points: Makes you look older. Tends to put off women, except those women who like beards. Needs to be trimmed and shampooed, same as the hair on your head.
 
I grew mine when I was in the Navy - a Bicentennial Beard. My mother-in-law wanted to see what I looked like. I shaved it off in early 1978. “Grow it back”, she said.

Makes you look older? I’m old. What hair I have left is white - not grey, white. My beard is white. I rather like having a white beard and white hair.

You mean were not supposed to grow beards? I wish someone had told me when I got out of the Army 15 years ago.

People say mune makes me look distinguished and civilized…which is a real suprise when they find out I am not…either.😃

If I didn’t grow a beard, I would have no hair on my head except my eye brows and ears.:eek:
 
I agree with whoever said that grown men do already grow beards, the question is should they shave them off.

IMO I like a guy with a beard. I think it is distinguished and masculine. Obvioulsy we’re talking a nice beard and not a crazy, unkempt Father Time/Rip Van Winkle type thing.

I let my beard grow pretty long last winter. I actually really liked it. 😃
It does make you look older though.
Especially when you have a bunch of gray in it. :o

I wish I could grow a beard. I am glad to hear that a woman finds it to be masculine. Most women today are repulsed by the idea of a man looking like, well, a man!

I’m 20 and almost all my friends can grow a beard, but have shaved faces. :confused: I certainly would not let that go to waste, believe you me!😉

I think a bead can look very distinguished on a man…But I really don’t care for the straggly looking kind

However it should be up to the wearer it’s no one else’s business…even if they want to make it theirs
 
Not crazy about beards, esp. if they aren’t trimmed and have food in them. Don’t care for moustaches, either, but my DH has one currently because he accidentally cut a small mole off his upper lip while shaving and it hasn’t healed yet, so he quit shaving his moustache for a while. He looks like Hitler.:mad:
