I really don’t do anything to do with specialising in english, i could care less, most of the time i’m speaking with non native english speaking people in basic english and i cut out most of my words.

When I publish anything I always have my freind who is in journalism to look over my work, because my grammer and spelling is atrocious…

Which is clear evidence that you do not possess a higher education. Your journalism friend must have to re-write your papers, as your grammar really is that bad…perhaps it is your journalism friend who actually possesses the three degree’s?

I don’t understand what spelling well and good grammer has to do with science, understanding, reasoning, math, surgery, design… which is what I’m doing. As long as i can communicate reasonably it’s not a problem…

More evidence that you do not possess the higher education that you claim to have.

I really don’t get why you value english and proper grammer on an internet forum… A book, a journal, a paper I completely understand and i make an effort… But this is just an internet forum…
It is only valued when a person claims that they possess a higher education, but their writing is that of a person who has yet to finish the 9th grade.

I am suspect that you are not who you claim to be and that a possibility exists that you do not in fact possess the higher education that you claim.

In that vain, I have suspicion that you are a troll and my involvement in this matter has now come to a close.😃

Pft, considering the amount of international students at my university that speak very raw english, and the thousands of universities around the world that do not teach in english. I would say that proficiency in english is hardly a standard for judging someones educational level.

Plus there is no real way of me proving my knowledge in any field, i have no desire to show you my folio of work for my deisng quilifications. I have not published anything outside my university, not that i would even show you who i was through it.

For all you know I simply do not exist, and in fact you are absolutely right, i may simply be a smart *** 9th grader as reflected by my english. Or i could be a 3rd degree student at tokyo university. Whatever, either way it’s not like i really need to say aything becuase anything i want to say has alreayd been well said by the likes of sam harris and dan dennet, and i would merely be regurgitating everything they and people like dawkins and hitchens says.

Seriously every argument that all relegious people can think of has been covered and well obliterated. Esspecially by sam harris

Letter to a christian nation is what i want to say but well articulated researched and paragraphed in an orderly fashion…

And if you can understand why dawkins became an athiest you can understand why i am irrelegious…

My point is that you are using 9th grade answers to adult questions. 9th grade catholic schooling is NOT ENOUGH to sustain an adult faith life. You are claiming that you know everything you need to know to make an educated decision about the faith, but you really really really don’t.

Just because you went to 9th grade of Catholic school means absolutely nothing here. If you actually ventured to search for adult answers, like most of us have, you would be in different shape.

Quite telling.
I know and having international student freinds doesn;t really help my english grammer, nor does speaking another language when i;m home…

Wow I realised I hardly even speak proper english anymore, like once a week maybe…

Umm no I really did look for the answers, It took me a long and hard time. That was where my formal catholic indoctrination stoped, at the end of grade 8. Then I started concentrating on imporant things that would help me get a good score, only 4 years left and all…

But i always had an intrest for relegions and if what i grew up into was true, in the last what 9ish years I;ve learnt alot about different relegions but I have learnt a monumental amount about christianity, where it came from its origins where its traditions derive from. What happened to form it how it took power. What it did with that power. I had many questions about what i was raised in and I have sought answers to that. But it is only most recently that I am putting together everythign that i had learnt.

I was concentrating on design really, but a freind of mine gave me the god delusion to read, which sparked my intrest again, which lead me to hitchens God is not Great and Harris Letter to a christian Nation and End of Faith. And these authors really spoke to me it was like they were articulating everything i wanted to say but had it all down in neat paragraphs and chapters. And they showed me much more than I had learnt.

I still don’t have a conclusion just a most likely scenario… Most likely no current world relegion is correct… And since it is likely that all world rleelgions are simply fiction that the concept of god is also fiction… Therefore it would be unwise of me to base my life around something that I find to be (emphasis on the I) highly unlikely…

Others may for other environmental, educational and psychological reasons come to an alternative conclusion to me, and thats all good… I believe in your right to believe in faeries…

Like you said this is just an internet forum, and like i said i barely use grammer in any of my degrees, i didn’t even write a single essay for 4 years…
Any DECENT university requires their students to write at least one quality essay in 4 years.

Since you say you did not write a single essay, you either are 1) not really a university student 2) cheating by having others do your work for you 3) a troll 4) enrolled at a really bad university (afterall, some doctor somewhere graduated at the bottom of the class…).

This is very telling of the quality of your education, and I think it is safe to say you not as “educated” as you have led us to believe.

Hehe. Well said; that really struck me as both clever and true! 😃

Abbadon,

After reading through your posts on this thread, I too doubt your credentials. However, should you indeed be who you claim, you should know that good, standard English is to be expected on a forum which communicates in that language. Being an “international student” is no excuse. Had this been a Japanese forum, I would expect all contributing members to utilize good, standard Japanese, whether it be their native tongue or not.

I was talking about the 4 years in design, it was all product creating, drawrings and public speaking.

Of course in science i had to write essays and publish papers. I think i mentioned the university names that i go to… You can judge them for your self…

You understand me don’t you? My spelling and grammer can’t be that atrocious, is it?

I’m writing in english and you can understand me enough to put out witty reparte… This is just an internet forum, do you really expect me to review what I write, becuase this really doesn’t register on my list of important things for which i should care about the way i speak…

You understand me don’t you?
Not as well as I might had you chosen to employ the standard rules of English. 😉

Yes, I do. I do expect you to review what you write because it demonstrates that you have enough respect for those with whom you dialogue to take the time to do things properly. You don’t have to be perfect; we all make mistakes. However, little things like proper capitalization and punctuation certainly aren’t too much to ask. Quite franky, if you can’t be bothered to check your own work, and indeed do not care, then I have to ask why you are here at all? This is a forum for communication, afterall.

Do You understan’ What this seNtence Say’s.

Sure it may be annoying to read. But punctuation and capitalization does not affect communication so much as to make it something to consider heavily.

Now if i was constantly speaking in a wrong tense, sure or if i was using words like hyuoas and expecting you to understnad what I’m saying.

But no your just finding a point to be prissy about. All I did at the start was explain why I me no one else but just me, where my irrelegiousness came from. It was just a comment, didn’t apply to anyone else but nooooo, then i had to continue with it and debate it which turns into a am I allowed to suck at english on /b/…

And I’ still left wondering.

A person who marries someone of the opposite religion, within christianity what is the punishment? In this life and the next?

Before christianity lost alot of it’s power was there a punishment?

Abbadon…do you not see that you have very little credibility on these boards?

The gig is up, you have been outed.

Could we all please get this thread back on track…Man! whatever if this guy spells lousy English or not… some people are really smart but just cant spell… at least thats common where I live.
Brothers… it looks like you are hi-jacking the thread… 🤷

Abbadon; Before I respond to other things, I know of the event you describe in 1917. How about you explain to me how 70 000 people saw the sun move yet no one else on earth did? Now lets think of other possibilities other than the sun actually moving. As you said mass hallucination, but bought on by what? Psychological event like that found in hyponosis theater?

Well Abbadon. The thing is this. There are a line of theories as to what went on. The real scientist will make a line of theories and then he will try to falsify these hypothesis. He is a serious scientist and he is not afraid of having the religious explanation as one of his theories. - openess to listening to the people who had the experience. He is open… has objective approach.
You plainly call it mass hallucination without any serious study… that to me shows nothing else than that you are an atheist. Its shows nothing scientifically about your approach whatsoever.
To me the most plausible explanation for the Fatima-event is that we have to do with a spiritual phenomenon… a vision shared by many. Because there is no other event in known history where 70,000 individuals of different backgrounds and beliefs claim to have had the same supernatural vision which even effected the physical realm (I am talking about the totally wet clothes and ground that got dry in a few moments).
if you have read books about it you will know that there were many atheists (now believers) and news-people present…

Though the honest answer is I don’t know, I’ll put out possible explanations, if evidence can be found for one of these, even if it is the one where the sun actually moved and only 70,000 people saw it. I will totaly accept it.

Well… the Catholic stance which I hold is that the sun did not actually move, which is also why the rest of the planet did not see the phenomenon. My theory is that it was not supposed to be seen bý anyone else than those gathered at Fatima.
In Medjugorje there are similar things… sometimes a whole pilgrim group or single individuals will see the “miracle of the sun” while the ones standing next to them see nothing unusual. I read the story of a complete agnostic journalist who came to Medjugorje and saw the same miracle and in the sun she saw the Risen Christ. Today she is a believer of course. She was there to write a highly sceptical report of the nonsense going on in Medjugorje, but she was struck to her face and was never the same again. I have, by the way, met many former atheists in Medjugorje. Travelled with a young man too, who did not believe in anything. But the Virgin Mary came to him while we were there.

But applying Occams Razor it is highly unlikely that the sun actually moved and only 70,000 people saw it. The most likely explanation is mass hallucination but brought on by what.

What makes that the most likely explanation?
It’s up to you to give a different explanation than that which is in actual fact the most simple explanation: that GOD did what He promised…because you should not forget the prophetic element… They were all gathered because they had been told by the Virgin Mary that something wild was about to happen (my words).

Ps… I did not grow up Catholic, so mind you, this has been a camel to swallow for me, but I have been forced in my honest approach to the world to accept that there are things that take place that I cant control nor fully understand.

… Shalom

some people are really smart but just cant spell…

Grammar, sentence structure, punctuation and spelling…all are weak.

This from a man working on his 3rd University degree…I think not.

Guys. Stop harping on his English. He said it wasn’t his first language. And that’s not the point or the topic of this thread.

Some people logically come to atheism as a conclusion. Not saying it’s right, and believe that they’ve simply not dug deep enough into Catholic theology, but “a being that made everything who is all powerful and all knowing” it outside the grasp of some people’s mind. Scientists and teenagers in this day are atheists. One because they want to profess their belief in science and believe it’s not possible with God, and the other because they want to think that they’re logical, cool, or like scientists. Or rebelling against their parents, that too.

And coaxing this person into the Catholic faith isn’t going to happen if we bash his grammar skills for 2 pages.

Your kidding right?

You actually believe that this guy is working on his third degree?

Go ahead and debate with the man that called your Faith a belief in ’ faeries’.

I have no idea what degree he’s working on, and it doesn’t matter to me. People can be intelligent without schooling, and stupid with schooling.

Certainly I’ll debate. But that’s not the topic. This topic is should his Buddhist and Catholic interfaith parents have married.

OP: I will gladly debate God with you in another thread, as will many more no doubt.

As for this topic: I can’t quite say. Technically your mother should have raised you Catholic. But it may be that religion would have been dealt in the same way even with a Catholic father.

I personally believe that interfaith marriages can be good- but it takes a very specific type of person to be able to keep their faith while their spouse practices another religion or none at all. Some people shouldn’t be in interfaith marriages- just like some people may not be suited for a person whose lifestyle doesn’t go along with theirs. It’s nothing against the religion or the person, it’s the situation that’s delicate.
