My son attends a Catholic Prep High School (grades 6 - 12) and is currently in the 7th grade.
The 8th grade religious education at the school is organized as confirmation preparation. I have reviewed the material quite closely and I am very pleased with the program. It is Catecism centric and well beyond what he would get in a CCD program.
Unfortunately, my parish has confirmation during Junior year of high school and requires students attend either the CCD program or attend the Catholic High School that is closer.
I am not thrilled with my parish confirmation preparation program through the CCD office and am reluctant to have my son attend. I was a teacher in the program prior to having kids of my own and was not impressed with the training I received or the devotion of most of the kids participating. Most resented having to attend and didn’t put any effort forward to participate.
I’ve talked to the DRE and haven’t made much progress. I’ve suggested she review the material from his school program and that she could review and oversee his service project activities.
Another family in our parish in the same situation 2 years ahead of my son chose to have their son confirmed through another parish. I’m not thrilled with this idea.
Any suggestions?
