I’m withya. What a silly bunch of bananas. Personally, I think he figures they’ve got a decent shot at getting a pro lifer in the governor’s mansion now. Since BO had a litter of pro aborts from which to pick, they might as well take theirs.

I too am curious about Senator Brownback’s reasoning. If she was surely going to be confirmed anyway, why not keep his record clean.

This is not a witch hunt but an exercise to ask people what they think if Sen. Brownback should be denied communion. I also asked others via E-Mail as to what they thought and the general consensus was that it was a terrible mistake, but a first mistake and hopefully with us raising our voices in protest of this, perhaps Sen. Brownback will learn from this. I do agree its different than say Nancy Peolsi’s voting record.

In light of all this, I would say a meeting is in order for the Senator but not denial of communion.

Senator Sam Brownback who is a Catholic, voted in favor of Governor Sebelius to be HHS. This betrayal is huge and since the Senator (Brownback) is Catholic, should he be denied Communion?

If I were the Bishop, I would probably just talk to Sen Brownback to clarify where he is coming from and to reiterate the CC position on being pro-life and how legislatures are especially important to the pro-life cause.

I heard on Catholic radio last night that Gov Sebelius has actually stopped receiving Holy Communion per her Bishop’s request. The Bishop was on the radio last night and said this.

I think these leaders need our prayers rather than our condemnation. I think we should try to hand write a letter to our leaders (local congressmen and senators) and express our opinions in a compassionate and prayerful manner. We should write the pro-life ones to thank them and we should write the pro-choice ones to let them know our position and to let them know that you are praying for them.

I think he made a mistake with his vote, but lets not toss aside a friend for a mistake. He is very strongly prolife and there just are not very many of his type in politics, to cast him aside would be a huge mistake. Now, if he builds a pattern, that would be different; however, we all make mistakes, we all fall.

Well then, he has the opportunity to publicly state his mistake in voting for her and he has the sacrament of Confession to get right with God. If and only if he takes advantage of these two opportunities should he be allowed to receive Holy Communion. Otherwise my previous comments stand.

Well, as lizaanne’s comment, among others, has shown, some of the claims and accusations against Sen. Brownback in this thread are no longer beginning to slip into the ludicrous. They have become ludicrous. It must be nice knowing Senator Brownback so well as to have the kind of knowledge necessary to determine his fitness for Holy Communion.

I think Sen. Brownback had a good reason to do what he did. I can promise you he is not pro-abortion. Maybe his reasoning was that whoever b.o. nominated would be pro-abortion, so why not get her out of Kansas, and let the republican Lt. Gov. take over…

Whatever his reason, Sebelius will be in a position to authorize death to millions of babies. Our Faith teaches that we can never participate in evil in an effort to bring about good.

Lots of political talk. Makes sense since we’re talking about politicians. I’m hoping, in future elections, especially at the national level, that Catholics are keeping the option on the table of not voting for particular offices until we have candidates who are serious about ending abortion (not just lip service).

The other night on “The World Over” Raymond Arroyo asked the Bishop of Kansas (who had publically stated that he had asked Sebelius not to present herself for Communion and has also spoken with Bishop Wuerl about what he discussed with her) this. The Bishop said that he didn’t think Brownback should be denied Communion for this.

Not so ludicrous IMO. I think this is a great question to ask if only to help us clarify our thinking about denial of communion to politicians. I agree with the Bishops that deny communion in most if not all cases but I want to be consistent and this question helps me think it through.
