I’m talking about the ‘volcanic’ sexual urges that erupts into ‘violent’ masturbation. This goes for pornography as well. It’s all sexual self-abuse, but people never really apply these disorders to self-abuse. There’s a victim here! And judging from all the threads on uncontrollable masturbation, this disorder is very common.

Yes indeed it should, but I know it won’t be. Sexual liberty and everything, all that mouthwash that is usually spouted to avoid the topic of disturbed sexuality.

I pray that it is, and who knows I could be wrong. Maybe it will? But, intense and chronic masturbation is an obsession for some people, and could be classified as an anxiety disorder. At least, UNDER an anxiety disorder.

If it is a disorder, does that mean that frequent pornography viewing, masturbation, and fornication are not necessarily mortal sins?

Only God can know what is in the individual sinner’s inmost heart.

Science isn’t democratic (neither is the truth) and it’s certainly not reflective of any one individuals morality. If you can think of good reasons, not grounded in morality why this should be the case, then, i’d like to hear them.

Simply doing any of these acts isn’t a disorder nor medically bad. If you are doing them to the point of compulsive addiction, unable to go without them and serious interference in your social life, then such a disorder already exists - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_addiction .

There’s a very significant difference between indulging in any pleasurable action - be that eating, drinking, exercising, having sex, sleeping, masturbating, playing video games, watching television, surfing the internet, etc, etc - and practising this action obsessively, to the exclusion of other activities and to a point where it interferes with one’s normal, expected functioning.

None of these activities are ‘disordered’ in and of themselves, and most of them are actually beneficial. Why should self-pleasuring be considered a bad thing, just because it’s not sanctioned by the Church? If anything, the kind of obsessive guilt that Catholic beliefs can inflict upon people is far more harmful than the condemned actions that might give rise to it.

It’s what I experienced. I was sexually self-abused for a great number of years. It become a curse, not pleasurable. My super-strong libido came to an end when I started taking Paxil for my depression. Drugs to help control powerful libidos need to be developed for the general population, given how common powerful libidos affect members here on CAF. I cannot put into words the anguish associated with wanting it to stop, but it keeps going on and on. Again, it’s clearly sexual self-abuse. It feels like being raped over and over again, but there’s no perpetrator except for the libido and sexual thoughts that come from afar (Satan).

There’s a great deal of context there, it seems to me, providing the anguish that for you surrounded what is in fact a perfectly natural - and indeed healthy - form of sexual activity. I experienced similar levels of guilt concerning masturbation as a teenager (when I was still a practising Catholic) but that disappeared when I came to understand that the real disorder was the paranoia and psychosis inflicted by the unrealistic beliefs and expectations imposed by the church’s teachings…

When sex becomes uncontrollable it’s not normal or ‘healthy,’ but self-abusive.
