Why cant a homosexual, single, celibate person adopt?
Oh, I don’t see anything wrong with that at all. I didn’t make myself clear 😉 :o Sorry. Regardless of sexual preference, any single parent that adopts should be chaste.

I see so many kids in the foster care system that are shuffled from one foster home to another and sometimes it takes years for them to get permanency. They want a permanent home and a family that they can call their own. Some of them end up having lost childhoods. It’s sad.

Nope, not unless it’s a family member or parent named guardian. I’m not in favor of single parenting, by choice or otherwise.

The problem of foster care/orphanages isn’t about there not being enough 2 parent families willing to do the job - it’s about a system that makes it terribly difficult for anyone to adopt or be adopted and makes it harder the longer the kid is in the system.

The answer isn’t to stop giving 2 heterosexual parents to these kids - it’s to insist that the system change for these unfortunate children and that society change so that fewer children end up there in the first place.

**Having more of a close up look at foster care than I ever dreamed, I’d have to say “Why can’t singles adopt in the meantime?” Changing the system and society would take YEARS and kids are having to deal with the rejection of not being wanted because they have medical needs, dealing with being taken away from their wacky parents and being put in a foster home(or 2 or 3 or more), or dealing with being raised in an orphanage in a foreign country with little resources NOW. **

**And even if the system and society changed, how many people would be willing to adopt the special needs child or the bi-racial child? Many who are looking to adopt want healthy babies that “look like us”. **

In my opinion all children deserve a mom and dad, if a parent dies that is something totally different but to on purposefully go at it alone, I don’t know how that is right.
On the other hand, for the foster care system where these children need a temporary family, I think that would be fine.
It’s just my opinion but I don’t know why you would on purpose bring a child into a family without a mom and dad, don’t they deserve that much? Again, not speaking about a death or abusive parent.

The only experience we have with adoption in our family is that of my aunt, a single mom. She is one of the most generous, kind-hearted women I have ever met. She is a teacher that was left by her husband (and even though she isn’t Catholic, she still considers him her husband despite the fact that he started a new life with another woman). Anyways, she is a foster mom for children that come and go (when they are taken away from their parents temporarily, etc.). She was once taking care of a little baby that had fetal alcohol syndrome. His parents were a mess and his other siblings were being taken care of by other family members, but no one wanted to have to take care of this baby because of his defects and all the medical attention and care he needed. He was waaaaaay behind developmentally, but with the help and support of my aunt, started catching up and gained a decent amount of weight. He needed tons of different medical treatments and surgery (he had everything from a cleft palate, to problems with his spinal cord due to his mom’s ingestion of alcohol and drugs all thru her pregnancy). Well, to make a long story a little shorter, my aunt ended up adopting this little baby and has served as a much needed source of comfort and stability throughout all his surgeries etc. His life has had a 180 degree turn ever since he was put in the care of my aunt. Its an open adoption so the mom and dad can see him etc, but my aunt is his legal guardian. I can’t imagine what his life would be like if my aunt would not have been able to adopt him.

So, with that said, I would have to say that although it would be ideal for all children to be adopted by couples, there are cases when single parents would be good too. I just hope they investigate them well to avoid problems eg with men adopting little girls etc. I don’t agree with homosexuals adopting, coupled up or not.
