The Church needs a Pope Bob.

He’ll stress simplicity, like his name.

Given that my father’s given name was “Bob” (actually it was “Bobbie”, and that was not short for “Robert”, his name was actually “Bobbie”), I would be fine with a “Pope Bob”.

I thought, however, that there was a tradition for Popes to name themselves after saints. I am not sure that we have any official “St. Bob” yet.

“Bob” is a tongue twister in many languages.

Maybe the next Pope’s given name could be Bob, and he’ll chose Robert as his…what do you call it??..his Pope name. He’ll insist on people calling him Pope Bob. He’ll stress informality.

I’d like to think that many popes giggle to themselves and joke to the people around them about the possible names they could choose, like ‘Bob’, before choosing something else.

My father was a “Bob”. People would sometimes call him “Bobbie.” Even though he was an adult, that name stuck.

My mother called him “Just plain Blob.”

My brother’s name is Michael. So was my dad’s. My nephew, we call Mick.
I really hate it when people call my brother, Mike.
Because to me, “Mike”, is my dad.
I just know I don’t like to be called late for dinner.
