Should the state marry gay lovers?

Fr. Mike,
Some States may sanction gay marriage, (no such thing is allowed in a Christian Church,) God hates this sin) that is when God will draw His blessings away from our country. (My opinion.)
When the Church gives their blessing to this ridiculous union, that is when I will stop attending church! It would be a sin to support this perversion which God hates. ( Rom.1:18-32, 1Cor.6:9-20)
This is my last word on this subject. My prayers are with those who are caught up in this lifestyle.

jean8, God does not hate homosexuals nor their lifestyle. God is a God of love, not hate. My prayers are that the Church will extend open arms to a community it has too long rejected.

There is no slippery slope with redefining marriage, period. There is a clear equivalence between race and sexual orientation. The Church will hopefully catch up on the latter like it finally did with the former.

What’s so morally incoherent about civil rights?
walrus,
A person can’t help what race they are born into. Sin is another matter. We have the choice to follow the teachings of the Lord or ignore them. Those who choose to practice the sin of homosexuality should repent. We are are called to repent of our sins. See Rom.1:28-31.
God ordained marriage between a man and a woman.
Do you read the Bible? Are you a christian?
Do you support this lifestyle?

You are correct that God is a God of love. He is also a God of life who designed the life giving embrace: the sexual union between a man and woman.

God does not hate homosexuals. However, he does hate sin. And Scripture, Tradition, and Magesterium are all clear that the act of homosexual sex is disordered and counter to the will of God.

Of course, we hardly need a knowledge of Scripture, Tradition, and Magesterium to prove the point. A basic knowledge of biology does it for us.

The Church’s job is NOT to compromise God’s truth so that it can reach out to a given community. Its job is to save souls. It can’t do that while pretending sin does not exist.

This is a question about the State, not the Church. It’s referenced right in the topic.

If you mean the homosexual community I don’t know what Church you are refering to.

And most if not all cannot help what sexual orientation they are. Sin is another matter. We have the choice to follow the teachings of the Lord or ignore them. Those who choose to practice the sin of judgment and exclusion should repent. We are called to repent of our sins.

I am not a currently active Christian but I have my reasons for that. I support this lifestyle because some of the best people I know are gay. They are virtuous, fun, loving people who are no different than you other than a sexual orientation directed towards the same sex. That’s the only difference. God nor Jesus reject this lifestyle. You can quote Scripture all day but all of those texts are well-disputed. Like I said, God loves them, Jesus loves them, the Church should to.

oops, yeah I’m bad about this too. Things happen so fast in the threads I can’t keep up with what’s what!

I agree with a previous poster that this topic is outside the scope of the argument at hand, which is about whether or not the state should sanction marriage.

Perhaps you should start a new thread for this topic?

Just a thought.

I have a couple of thoughts based on your post. Let me ask a couple of questions (you can address these in your new thread if you like!) 🙂

If the texts of scripture are well-disputed, and you do not ascribe to them, how do you know what God and Jesus love or do not love, or even if they exist? It seems the basis for any belief is thrown aside here. I could just as easily conclude that God condones polygamy if I was able to trow out all relavation and tradition. Just because there may be nice polygamists, does that mean that the state, or the Church (I think we need a new thread about this) should “recognize” such relationships?

Then you will get nowhere, and the Christian churches will slowly fade away.

Do you know how shocking, how surprising, how distasteful it is to have someone screaming in your face, saying that you are filth, that you are scum, that you will rot in hell, that you eat feces, that you deserve to die?

That is my experience with people trying to ‘convert’ me with scare tactics. Sometimes I would be physically assaulted, sometimes they would throw ‘holy’ water, or red wine on me.

I don’t think most Christians realize what a bad taste some of their fellows leave in the minds of GLBT’s. Are all Christians like that? Of course not, but it’s enough to learn just to avoid and not confront and ignore completely at all times in public, because we don’t want to cause a scene.

This post is mendacious.

Look, how about the fact that atheist and homosexualist nutso’s have defaced the Eucharist on Youtube. How about the fact that some of my Mormon friends in California need escorts to and from temple. How about homosexual groups advocating for actual terrorism against the Mormon church in specific.

Come on.

There are lunies in every “community,” yours included. Please, I know how incredibly emotional this issue is for all of us concerned, but could we at least ATTEMPT a civil dialog. 🤷

You’re talking to someone who has been assaulted twice and had a man try to rape her straight. I’m sorry, my life has gone way past ‘fear’. Actions have been taken against me and I fear for my life daily when I am in particular parts of the country. I look forward to emigrating as soon as I can.

I could care less what the state thinks now because as soon as me and my guatemalan lover Philipe got the chance we tied the knot! then he showed me to tie a knot a different way 😉

Who are you to call her story mendacious? The arrogance of some people on here kills me. For God’s sake (literally), show some love and acceptance people! This is NOT the way of Christ!!

If what you say is true (and I presume it is) I recommend that you go to the authorities, even if it has been a long time. Any form of assault against the human person is a crime against God, not to mention a crime against the laws of the state.

Those who assaulted you were not Christian in any true sense. Their deadness to their own sin clearly shows this. Evil is evil.

Lets get the Church’s teaching on homosexuality in perspective for a second. The Church does NOT say that being gay is a sin, nor is homosexuality “evil” per se. It is a disordered inclination. So too is the inclination to view pornography, or the use of contraception for that matter.

Assault and attempted murder, rape… that stuff is on a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL of EVIL. I am sorry these things happened to you.

I’m Catholic and there is no hatred for people. No rejection of any sinner based on their sin.
I have had to leave multiple parishes because of the sheer fact they did not want me there, especially around children. They were simply traumatized by my existence once the rumor mill began to churn. I was a walking aspect of sin, a demon in the real world.

Do people not understand Catholic teaching.

EVEN IF you are in a state of mortal sin, the Church actually requires you to be at Church. To treat you horribly there is counter intuitive to Catholic teaching. If people did this to you, I am sorry.

One question:

Did you show up at Church with your partner acting as partners?
