Okay, please excuse me if I cover ground that’s already been tilled to death, but I stopped reading at page 3.
If you were my DD/DDIL and you had this kind of problem, I would be beyond furious if you did not come to me for help. Had DH or I been the cause of it, even if it were partially damaged before we put our hands on it, we would have offered to repair it without being asked. Handling three little ones without back problems is a daunting task. It would break my heart to think there was a way that I could make my dearly loved DD’s life a little easier and I didn’t do it.
Pensmama, like many others on CAF, I have been impressed with your frugality and the grace and resourcefulness with which you handle your life. I see nothing wrong in asking for a little help.
I often wonder why the opinions and “help” we see on this site are so completely devoid of any Christian charity. Somehow, I can’t imagine Jesus saying, “Suck it up, Buttercup.”

Just call the Knights of Columbus. Our Council has a sub-group called “I CAN HELP”.
And they do.
Just ask for heaven’s sake.
If they don’t have someone in the membership that can repair it, they surely know someone who can.
