OK - I talked with the bishop today. After we said hello & shook hands, I asked about bowing to bishops.
He said that in the US, no - shaking hands is fine.* If a person is from a culture where bowing is customary, or is in a country where it is customary, then bow.
Before Mass an older woman greeted him and started to genuflect. He grabbed her hand and said, “We don’t do that anymore.” Then he gave her a brotherly hug.
*I do, however, know one retired bishop who loves all the hoopla. If you meet him, bow and kiss his ring.
