Should we endure suffering or overcome it?

My friends said that if we endure suffering, it means we act against Catholic Doctrine.
 
Did they explain why and how they believe it goes against Catholic Doctrine?
 
The Christian must be willing to generously accept all kinds of suffering, out of love for Jesus, since he himself endured great suffering for our love.
But that is the theory ,. In practical situations, if for example a suffering prevents us from fulfilling our state duty, or if because of it other people are unjustly deprived of certain goods then we must seek to overcome or to eliminate this suffering. And even in these situations one must always remain patient and accept with confidence the will of God that delay the end of this suffering

Actually its the opposite of what your friend says - its looked at as suffering with Christ to be more Christ like - you offer up your suffering with Christ - its considered joining the cross. Defiantly not against Catholic Doctrine. Your friend does not know what they are talking about and probably has never read Catholic doctrine or the bible and is simply repeating words they heard from another . St Paul talks about suffering alot in his letters and unites his suffering with Christ and happily i must say if you read his letters. The Church teaches that our suffering can be united with Christ and its what we should do when suffering.
 
Well that is wrong. In the CCC 147… The Doctrine and practice of indulgences in the Catholic church or closely linked to the effects of the sacraments of penance. When we go to confession our sins are forgiven but we still or wounded and indulgences is a remission before God of temporal Punishment Due to sin whose guilt has already been forgiven. There are two kinds of indulgences 1 is partial and the other is a plenary. A partial indulgences only removes part of the sin, what the church teaches a partial is by saying the rosary, taking the Eucharist or giving alms xcetera. A plenary is you have to be saying the rosary adoration in front of the Blessed Sacrament and have just going to confession all these things have to be in place for a plenary but really no one knows if they have a plenary Indulgence. Here’s the thing you have to be made pure to enter Heaven. Some saints have. Martin Luther broke away from the church because of indulgences and he was right some not all priest we’re saying if you give money to the church it will buy a loved one out of purgatory which was false. But he went to far when he rejected the Authority of the Pope. But part of indulgences is almsgiving to the Church and to the poor. But it doesn’t buy a soul out of purgatory.

Indulgences will shorten a souls time in purgatory and will by doing indulgences it will shorten your time to.
 
That’s wrong.
We endure it but also work to help aid others’ sufferings and our own if God so wills.

I believe and many cases, enduring it leads to overcoming, though not always in ways we expect.

For example, My friend was stabbed in the stomach, I just looked him suffering so that he could completely unite with God??? Or I hurt myself to suffer to unite with God?

It depends…

Are we suffering as a direct result of sin or poor choices? Then we need to change our hearts and behavior.

Are we suffering because of random events (like a catastrophic diagnosis)? We can study the problem and try to fix it as much as is humanly possible.

There are some problems and sufferings for which there is no obvious cure–in that case, we fly to the foot of the cross and nestle into the wounds of Jesus.
What I mean by that is, prayer, fasting, sacraments, spiritual reading.

Giving money is a sacrifice. The cross represents sacrifice.

So, how is giving money wrong? It is a good deed to give. All indulgences require a deed (a good act) of the person seeking the indulgence for himself or for another.
 
Did you say the cross ( represent ) sacrifice? Jesus did suffer and die on that cross for all of humanity and to say that it represents his sacrifice undermines Christ and what he was put on this earth to do.
 
To say that the crucifixion was not a sacrifice is to the last supper was just a meal. But if the crucifixion was a sacrifice then the last supper was not just ordinary wine an ordinary bread but super substantial Bread and Wine. The unbloody sacrifice of our Lord body blood soul and divinity.
 
The Catholic version of the Serenity Prayer:

O God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

Accept the suffering you cannot stop, have the courage to stop the suffering you can stop, and have the wisdom to know the difference.
 
An unwillingness to suffer is not Christian.

Through suffering; others are healed.
