I watched a movie, named “Evil dead”, some of you might have seen it. In it there is some witchcraft going on, and people go insane and kill themselves and others. It got me thinking, shouldn’t we fear the devil? It feels like there is no fear of not serving God as well as we can, at least not what I know of, in my modest experience.

I wouldn’t say fear but rather respect as he is an angel. a higher being than us.

**Fear?

I suggest we all become aware of the devil, how the devil works in our life and the great harm the devil can shower upon us - if we are not aware, awake, in daily prayer for protection and fully trust in God.

I would think the devil would “love” the fear - since he can give you a false way out.**

Work towards a deeper prayer life, and remember that:

John 4:4 " He who is in you (Christ) is greater than he who is in the world."

People don’t “go insane” because of witchcraft. Stop watching that stuff! “Insanity” is a biological condition. A person can develop it slowly (mental illness) or have an underlying psychosis that is somehow evoked by serious trauma. NO ONE can “make” you “insane” or mentally ill, not even Satan (although the biological insult is the result of the imperfect condition of creation due to original sin).

The people who use Wicca (and worse, “black magick”) are putting themselves into grave sin but that is between them and God. THEY CANNOT HURT YOU. “He Who is in me is greater than he who is in the world”, Jesus “defeated” the world. All of this horror that Hollywood (or whatever you wanna call it) is pumping out to the young in our culture is feeding off their natural fear of what is happening in the world. I do finally understand why “kids” watch this stuff: if it’s so much worse than your own fears, then it makes your life seem safe in comparison, I get that. But it’s FICTION, these people are normal people walking around like you and me and they are portraying fictional characters in some really bad script and have terrible agents. Sometimes I laugh to myself when watching this stuff, especially if a character in the plot expresses some sort of remorse. In my head, I say “yeah I really need a new agent” lol. Or a better script! Imagine the millions of dollars being wasted on this stupidity when there are people starving, dying of illnesses that have medication available but not just to them, etc. There’s the sin and it’s on those who put their money, talent (or lack of same, usually) and time into something destructive and anti-God.

Go find some Bruce Marchiano movies and watch them!

Check out Fr. Robert Barron’s video about the devil. I think he puts the issue in perspective.

As long as we are in the state of grace, we have nothing to fear.

I don’t watch horror movies for a reason - I don’t think they’re spiritually healthy.

And there is never anything to fear - never. All that happens is either directed by or allowed by Christ, who is God.

I read and saw “The Exorcist” at a very young age. I think it scarred me for life. 😉

Actually Christ is the one to fear. He is the One who will ultimately judge the world.👍

Why are you an unsure Catholic, pray constantly that HE gives you the grace that the Catholic Church is HIS CHURCH, ONE, HOLY, APOSTOLIC, read more, Church Fathers would be a great start, lives of the Saints ( well some of them at least) and as its the Bride of Christ, Love the Church.
Love the Lord, Love Our Lady, aren’t you one lucky person to have received this Jewel that people from other faiths have had to jump over burning hoops, not talking to parents , in order to join this JEWEL. May the Lord Bless you, and keep you, and Make his face shine upon you and give you the peace to know that you have something precious and that has to be treasured.:signofcross::harp:

In a word… No.
The devil only comes to you if you allow the devil to take up residence in your Heart.

It’s difficult to fear Christ…He’s so kind and loving with us sinners!

I instead have a sense of fear (in the good way) for God the Father…which is why I always remind myself that our prayers to the Father are “through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ”.

Yes!! I have always believed in putting the fear of God into us, especially as children. That is what the nuns did for me and honestly, if I make it into heaven, it will be because of them! 🙂

Too many people, including catholics, have forgotten that God is all-loving and JUST.

You shouldn’t fear the Devil, but be aware of the reality of his and his legions existence. People who put themselves into witchcraft, and under the devils service will live in fear.

What??? Why would you respect Satan?
2 Peter 2:10-12
Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings; yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord. But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand.
Jude 1:9-10
But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” Yet these people slander whatever they do not understand …]
Not so much about respecting, but about simply keeping in mind that our place is not to interact with celestial beings (except to ask for the intercession of the holy angels). And remember that even the apostles and their successor limit their interaction with fallen angels to commanding them to depart, without insults, and keeping in mind that it is only by the power of Christ and the authority of the Church that they can do so…on their own, as mere creatures, they are far inferior to the lowest of the pure spirits.
