Should we have infant Holy Communion in the Latin Church?

The logic of delaying communion until the age of reason I think of as similar to the logic of delaying baptism until the age of reason. If we have infant baptism, why not infant communion? If the Eucharist is truly a sacrament and not just symbolic, it helps get the infant off to a good start.

Regarding the worry of spilling the precious blood, that applies to adult communion as well.

Also, an adult that has had first Communion may continue to receive even after a mentally disabling tragedy. However, someone who is born with a mental disability might never be permitted to receive Communion because he hasn’t reached the age of reason. I really think that the rules of the West concerning receiving Communion should be changed to a specific age rather than leaving it to the priest to define “reasoning” skills.
