Should we pray to Jesus more than the Father?

Look, i am a very strong Catholic. I love my faith. I love God with all my being.

One question that comes over my mind a lot is ‘Should we pray to Jesus?’

The reason i ask is that Jesus told us about the prayer to Our Father. Should we pray to ‘Our Father’ more? Should we make sure that ‘Our Father’ is at the forefront of our prayers more so than that Our Dear Saviour Jesus?

I see so many prayers to Jesus. Do you think that we should concentrate on prayer to ‘God Our Father’ more than directly to the son, ‘Jesus’?’

I know that the trinity is all three. Confused as i really dont want to pray to one when i should be praying to the Father, as instructed by Jesus.

I love you Jesus and God the Father. Forgive me for asking this question!

If one can say one believes that the Trinity is three persons in one God, there is no issue.
Indeed, the Trinity is a difficult concept fro us mere humans to wrap our heads around.
But God is God. Whether He be incarnated in Christ, or in the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Or He be our Creator.
Be at peace…there’s no wrong way to pray unless we pray for the wrong things, as in, trying to circumvent God’s holy will for our lives.
Remember Dismas, the good thief beside Jesus on the cross. He prayed directly to Jesus. The entire Rosary is a meditation on the life of Jesus.
How can that be a disordered thing?
God bless.

Do not separate where there is not separation.
You say that you know that the trinity is all three…but do you know that we worship ONE God…and that prayer to one of the “persons” is a prayer to all? Perhaps perhaps what is causing you this difficulty is that you have not fully integrated the concept.

That said, I do tend to address more of my praying to my Heavenly Father. But prayers to Jesus are just fine.

Peace
James

You should pray to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit Who Is One God.

May The Blessed Trinity grant you Peace

Ta guys. Just that sometimes i get a feeling that Jesus wants us to pray to ‘the father’. I know that sound strange due to the ‘trinity’ but its what i sometimes feel!

I should know that praying to Jesus is indeed praying to the father too. Its just an odd feeling i get sometimes.

I do ask God for guidance on the matter as i really dont want to let him down.

I’ve had thoughts about that in the past, too. I felt like I was neglecting the Father and the Holy Spirit because I tend to pray to Jesus most of the time. But, I have gotten a lot of good advice about it from reading here, and other places, that it’s not really a problem. Most Catholics make the Sign of the Cross, and pray the Our Father, whenever they begin saying most ‘formal’ types of prayers. Those prayers include all Three Persons of the Holy Trinity. So, in effect, all their prayers are directed to the Trinity.

I also have no problem using ‘informal’ prayer. What I mean is that, sometimes, I just talk directly to Jesus as if He were sitting in the room with me (which He is), having a conversation. Technically, prayer is a just way of ‘talking’, either to the Saints, or to God. So, using formally written prayers isn’t necessarily the required method of praying, all the time.

Another thing to keep in mind, is that the devil might try to suggest things to you, to try and discourage you from praying in any effective way. If he can, he’ll try to distract us from forming a closer bond with God. Don’t let him get you down! Whichever way you feel is best for you to talk to God, is fine. If you use the Sign of the Cross to bless yourself, first, you’ll be better protected from the devil’s attacks. Either way, your prayers will always be heard. If you think that ‘moron’ really is bugging you when you’re trying to pray, just say the St. Michael Prayer for his protection against him. 😃

I pray to Jesus because I relate to the human form rather than praying to God where his image as the Father I can’t grasp.

I was speaking to my Spiritual Director about this and he said it’s ok.

Great advice. Cheers 👍
