Should we show reverence to the blood too?

Among all the Churches, only the Latin Church has chosen to emphasize the full presence of Christ in both species by withholding the Precious Blood – and it wasn’t that long ago.
In 1424, to combat the Utraquist Heresy, which stated the the Eucharist was only valid when both species were offered

Even then, it was only offered rarely, on feasts like Corpus Christi.

I really see the American Church as reviving the Utraquist Heresy, as many Catholics really don’t feel ‘complete’ without receiving of the Cup. That shows a really bad understanding of the Eucharist at best.

Although it is not heresy to receive in both kinds, you are doubtless correct in observing that people dont “feel ‘complete’” without receiving of the Cup. There is a lot of misunderstanding out there. Adult catechesis is arguably the most pressing need in the Church today.

Yes, Brendan – thanks for providing the date; I should have done that myself. To clarify my statement “not that long ago” – to me the 15th Century is the eve of the Reformation and and thus virtually qualifies as “modern times.”

Dear friends

As I understand it , it is optional if you wish to receive the Precious Blood of Jesus, whereas the Eucharist Host is not optional. If you have received the Eucharist Host, you show your reverance by a bow and saying ‘amen’, once received Jesus is within you as others have rightly stated and if you do not then join for whatever reason which you are free to take, though it is encouraged you receive Christ Jesus under both species (unless you are ill with a cold or some other similar contagious illness that you know of) the procession to receive the Precious Blood of Jesus, then you are in no way deemed to show reverance as you have Him within you, His presence within you and your reverance to Him is all that is required, but if you are to receive Him under both species and are in procession for both then you bow and say ‘amen’ on both occassions of receipt of the Eucharist either by the Eucharistic Host and His Precious Blood by way of reverance to the receipt of Christ Jesus under both species.

This reverance is to be observed once you regain your seat in the church by prayer and private reflection.

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

Teresa

I do when i receive the precious blood but i never thought about bowing to it as I walk by it—like previous people have said Jesus is inside you & others, so at that moment, you are a living tabernacle & you are thinking about Jesus within you rather than His presence in the cup.
