Should we stop praying for graces?

I was reading yesterday that St Padre Pio said “every grace has to be paid for”, with great graces comes also great sufferings along with them.

Would it be better to not pray for graces then and just muddle through otherwise you will suffer more than you would normally?
 
Depends. Christ died on the cross for us. That is how close He wants to get to us How close do you want to get to Him?

In the Mass (Divine Liturgy) we pray for graces in the Epiclesis ( calling upon God’s Spirit ).
 
That’s like saying that it’s better to be blindfolded when driving a car.

We are here for a short time. With Christ, we can impact the world for good.
You can step out of the big game, sit on the sidelines, but at the end of it all there will be great grief when you see the impact you could have had but chose not to.
 
My life is in utter turmoil due to vindictive people and I don’t know where to turn. I trusted Him so much but I feel He has completely abandoned me. All I know is suffering and I want it to end, where are the graces?
