Should we "tip" the priest after a baptism

I am wondering if parents usually give the priest a monetary gift after a baptism like you would after a wedding. Should it be about the same as your weeky offering?

Yes!
And invite him to the party. Some people forget that.

It is not strictly required to give the Priest a “tip”, or stipend. It is fine to do so, but Father should give people the sacraments, whether he gets a stipend or not.

many parishes will give you an envelope for a donation, this money goes to the parish to help cover expenses for the classes, use of the Church, certificates, record-keeping and other costs. It is always proper to give the priest a donation. Each diocese has a policy on how such donations are to be handled. Usually he can either keep it for himself, but report it as income, or give it to the parish to be used for designated purposes.

Yes, we’re having it in the church hall so he’ll be there for sure 🙂

BTW, this church doesn’t provide a seperate envelope. We also had our validation ceremony with this priest and did mail him a thank you card with a stipend.

Thanks for the advice!

Yes

When my last child was baptised I gave the priest a $75 gift certificate to a local resturant. He was very grateful when I saw him a few days later.

My prayers are with you for a quick and easy birth!
I envy you the baby but not the labor. God makes babies so darling so the labor is all worth it.
