How was Tony Blair let in the Church in the first place? One of the most pro-abortion, pro-birth control, pro-gay agenda, pro-separation of church and state, secularist promoters… Did he make a public repentance? NO! Did he come out and say to the British people and the world, “I have realized the errors of my ways while I was in office and before. I beg God’s mercy and that of the people of GB and I will spend the rest of my days working to undue the damage I’ve done. Abortion is a great moral evil, etc…” NO!
The truth is, the Church in England, not be confused with the Church of England, is so desperate, they’ll take anyone who furthers their cause and then act like it’s a great thing. I’m sorry, Mr Blair is no feather in their cap and Basil Hume was certainly no saint!

Even though I agree with Blair on little, I admire him. He’s got guts to do what he did.
Persecution will not happen in our lifetime. It will be toward all Christians, not just Catholics. When it does, it there is precious little you and I can do to stop it.
However, the good news is that God will stop it.
We should pray for those that persecute us.

Or we could pray in Christian charity for Mr. Blair’s further conversion and embrace of the truth. I thank God that I am allowed to continue to be a part of His Church, even though I am a horrible sinner. What I’m trying to get across here is that charity demands that we do not attempt to judge the state of men’s souls–very easy to do with public figures–and rather look to their actions. I can sit here and list off Tony Blair’s offenses. I can say nothing about the man himself. I can only hope and pray that he comes to embrace the truth. True charity demands that he lose his current rumpled-look-of-success and step up his fashion game, sooner rather than later.And when did I ever say that? That was part of his, “I’m one of the people, new Labour” shtick moves.First things first. On a more serious note, his sin was public. It is confusing to the public that a person who built a political career by introducing and backing laws completely contrary to Church teaching suddenly becomes a member of the Catholic Church. Some explanation is necessary here.
And if you read the OP’s linked article, who is Blair to come into the Church and then demand changes to it’s traditions and teachings?

A priest was suspended, but the courts ordered the diocese to continue to pay him until his contract ran out; the appellate court reversed the decision when, citing that his suspension prevented him from being able to fulfill the contract, it was nullified by his own bad actions.
Likewise, many groups are targeting the church with other civil rights issues in attempts to force the church to go where it must not: sexually-active homosexuals allowed to be priests, priests allowed to marry after ordination, women clerics, “gay marriage”…
If Western Societies do not each turn from their continued indifferentism, the result will be civil laws making demands of heresy, and driving the church underground, or at least into “not a religion in the eyes of Governments” territory.
