Should you marry someone who doesn't attend Church while you are dating?

I’m not quite sure what you’re saying… that my husband is going to Hell? That I’m going to Hell? Maybe I’m confused at your wording… I would really hope that neither of those is what you meant… We have more in our relationship than just things in common… in fact, the only important thing in my life that is not shared with my husband is my continuing Catholic faith… yes, it’s a big one, if not the biggest, but it surprisingly has made me a stronger Catholic and I would hope that my prayer and commitment to God would help my husband and I to get to Heaven someday… there are many many many people I know that are married that are both Catholic and have horrible, loveless not nice marriages… who’s to say who is going to Heaven or Hell but God, right?
 
To whomever asked the question "How do your children feel about the fact that their father will not be coming to Heaven with them?..

I am very upset that you would ever say that… you don’t know my husband… all you know is that he’s an atheist… who are you to tell me that he won’t be going to Heaven? Are you going to Heaven? Is anyone typing on this going to Heaven? I know we have a harsh, jealous God, but that’s what he is… he is God… not you… so don’t you dare ever tell anyone that they’re not going to Heaven because you don’t know where you stand in God’s book either… none of our lives are over yet, so I highly suggest you stop your judgement… leave that to God…

Can an atheist go to Heaven? If he remains an atheist (and I agree that at some point he could convert; there are no guarantees of anything in this life) he will most certainly go to Hell.

I’m sorry that that’s a shock to you - I thought you knew. 😦
 
I know that there’s a greater chance of him going to Hell than that of a christian, but no one can say for sure that he would be going to Hell… my whole point is no one knows at the end days what will happen with our souls… current saints were once prostitutes, betrayers, etc… who knew they’d be saints someday? I just get extremely frustrated when someone tries to throw the judgement of hell or heaven at me or my husband… or anyone, really… God has the final judgement…

Is the thread about someone who “Doesn’t” or who “Won’t”?

Two entirely different subjects.

I met my wife in '87. I was a practicing Catholic. She was raised Baptist, but hadn’t been to church regularly since she was 10. She was 24 when we started dating.

However, she was (and is) the quintessencial “good girl”.

So, don’t rush into generalizations. Each person is different. She converted after we had been married a short time.

Not attending church every Sunday doesn’t ALWAYS make you “not good” marriage partner material.

Matthew 7:21 - Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Not only do we have to acknowledge Jesus Christ as God (which atheists do not do), we also have to take the next step and also obey all of His commandments.

Since an atheist doesn’t even have “part one” of this equation, how can he even get to “part two”? It’s like trying to ascend to the second storey without a staircase or elevator.

In John 14:6, Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Can an Atheist change his/her belief on God, Jesus Christ on their death bed?

Sorry I am doing shot gun posting (trying to do too many things at once 😊 )
Also, please tell me in either of those verses where it will say that they will go to HELL (as you had stated in your previous post)??? Do you believe in purgatory??

Yes.

Is it likely, though?

Most people die as they have lived. Also, most people today don’t get a “death bed,” unless they come down with some sort of long-drawn-out terminal illness. Even then, you are fully alive until you actually die. Nobody knows their actual moment of death ahead of time; we always think they have one more day, or one more week. And if they were not in the habit of prayer, they aren’t going to get into it amid the noise and hustle of a hospital, especially if they aren’t feeling very well.

Death has a way of sneaking up on most people. I am sure the couple who were living together with three kids who got killed on the highway about a month ago were thinking that they had all kinds of time to get married and then get right with God.

I agree with this, (of course I am Catholic 😃 ). 👍 I also can not account one time that I have heard the Church say that anyone is going to HELL!! Therefore, I do not believe that members of the Church should be telling people that they (or their loved one) is going to HELL, such as what was said by jmcrae!!

Interesting you say that. I don’t recall that either. We hear lots about what it takes to go to Heaven. But not much about actually GOING to Hell…unless of course one of my employees is talking to me…:eek:

If you don’t make it to Heaven, then you go to Hell, right? (Purgatory is part of Heaven; it’s not a third place.)

We can make a new thread out of where Purgatory is 😃

The only time I remember any of the nuns telling us about Hell, was when Sister Cornelia told us in about second grade that the address of Hell was

:rotfl: Thank you for adding some humor to all of this! Maybe because only God can determine who is going to hell not us (well unless we “sell our souls to the devil” or worship the devil then I think you don’t have much of a chance, although that is still for God to determine.
