Shouldent parishes do this?

A lot of the Eastern Catholic Churches and parishes identify there parishes by there Sui Juris Church, but I noticed in the Latin Rite we don’t. Shouldn’t Latin Rite parishes in the USA start identifying itself Latin Catholic? I know in the Middle East and India they use the term Latin Catholic, but in the USA its not really used, how come?

Only a guess, but I would say that in the US, since ***most ***for the parishes are Latin Rite, so they see no reason to add the “identifier”. Most of the parishes in my diocese have in their “official title” (for tax purposes, etc) St. Fill-in-the-blank ***Roman Catholic ***Church.
As to the Middle East & India, my guess would be that since there are more expressions of Catholicism there with the different Rites used and the Latin Rite for the most part would not be the typical, that is why they use the “identifier”.

Again, this is just my guess, I have no idea really, this just makes the most sense, at least in my head. 😛

I’m curious as to how you would know that. Have you travelled there, or have you been reading about these things? 🙂

Maybe they should, but I bet you if they did, most Catholics won’t even recognise the term.

I have researched! The Latin Patriachate of Jersulem is a good example. 🙂

I would say that there is no need as we are living in the historical region of the Western or Latin Church so any Catholic Church would be assumed to be Latin.

If we establish a parish in (for example) Greece, where the regional church is the Greek Catholic Church, I would assume
  1. Catholic Church = Greek Catholic
  2. Any other church would need additional verbiage: Latin Catholic Church, or Coptic Catholic Church.

I don’t mean it in the sense of confusion between Churches, but the correct identification 🙂

It is like the Pepsi logo. You don’t need to see the word “Pepsi” to know that it is Pepsi. It is the same in the West about the Latin Catholics. Only using the word “Catholic” tells us that they are Latin Catholic. There is no need for an additional word. 🙂

Maybe one day the Church will be identified Latin Rite instead of Roman
