Shouldn't a First Communion be on a Saturday?

I wonder if anyone can help me. My 7-year-old daughter and the rest of her class are due to make their First Communion sometime early next year. But our priest has now told us that it will be on a Friday as he is busy with weddings and christenings on the Saturday of the scheduled weekend. Most of the parents are very upset by this, as most of us go to work and feel we will be putting family and friends out by asking them to join in our celebrations of our child’s day on a weekday.

I have spoke to the priest and he is very busy as he covers three churches and five schools and feels this is the only way around it. While we understand he is under a lot of pressure, we feel it would be nice to have our day on a Saturday or Sunday as we did as children. Someone told me to write to the bishop, but I wouldn’t know what to write to a bishop. I would not like to go the wrong way about this but any advice would be helpful.

Has no one thought of simply moving the First Communion to a Saturday on which the priest does not already have weddings and christenings scheduled? He can then inform anyone who later tries to schedule his time on the new date that he is already booked to celebrate First Communion for the CCD.
