Shouldn't the family get to choose readings for a funeral?

My best friend’s brother died. I was helping with funeral arrangements and we were not given choices for the readings. My husband’s uncle died a couple of months ago and we got to read through different options and choose. Shouldn’t the family always be able to choose what readings they want?

Within reason and in cooperation with the presider of the funeral, yes. If not offered a list of options for Scripture readings, a family member who is responsible for funeral arrangements can ask for such a list.
