Shouldn't we be consecrating our heart to Jesus?

I’m a convert to the faith. I just became a member this past Easter. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Our Lady and pray to her often, but I just cannot bring myself to accept the fact that people consecrate themselves to her. We are supposed to be putting Christ first in our lives. Mary and the saints come after. So why are we consecrating ourselves to Mary? Shouldn’t we be consecrating ourselves to Jesus? If someone could please enlighten me and help me understand that would be great.

I have consecrated myself to Jesus through Mary, and I see this as having pledged myself to Mary, a general under the authority of the Commander-in-Chief, Jesus Christ.

The military is one of the few hierarchies most of us are familiar with these days, so I often consider things in military terms to see if thaf helps me understand things better. As it usually does We are, after all, soldiers in the war against evil.

Consider this:
Jesus has given us His blessed mother as a protector and an intercessor. Do you really believe that Jesus, Our Lord and Savior, would be jealous of His own mother? That He cannot discern our love for her as we love our own mothers, and mothers of those dear to us in a special way? I would be far more worried that Our Lord would look at me on the last day and ask me what kind of problem did I have with the woman who bore the Son of God, who lived a chaste and sinless life, and who devoted her entire self to the promotion of the Gospel and love of Christ, our Redeemer?

I’m a cradle Catholic. Never ever in my life, did I suspect that anyone around me in the Church, or my family, or especially my dad who was very devoted to Our Lady were committing some kind of error because they loved Mary and asked her frequently to pray for us. Mary, always, always points us to her beloved Son.
Every approved message/apparition of Mary recounts her advice to us to return to Jesus, to pray to God the Father, and to live by the Holy Spirit.

We are given to God at Baptism by our parents… we ask Our Lady to keep us as her children, brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ.

My family and I have consecrated our lives to the Sacred Heart of Jesus… I know that some people prefer to go to Jesus through Mary exclusively… that’s not for everyone. It’s not a universal practice and certainly not a requirement.

Praying to God with Mary and the other Saints has been a great practice for my family, but we’ve prefer to consecrate ourselves directly to Jesus Sacred Heart… Our Lord the one mediator between God and man.

I would say that if you are uneasy about consecration to Mary or if is not something that grabs you, don’t worry about it or feel pressure to conform… God created diversity and He loves it.

The reason I consecrate myself to Jesus through Mary is because Mary magnifies the Lord.

She is the perfect disciple, our spiritual Mother given to us at the foot of the cross by Jesus. Her will is one with His, and she as a loving Mother intercedes for us.
