Sheshan (Chinese: 佘山) Hill is a pilgrimage site in Shanghai, China. Though it is not very known globally, it is probably the most famous/popular pilgrimage site in (PR) China. (and yes, I’m Chinese) According to Wikipedia, She Shan is the only active pilgrimage site for Roman Catholics in China.I’ve never heard of an icon corner before, so this thread is very interesting to me. I like this very much. Can you tell me a little bit about OLO Sheshan - I’ve never heard of her before?
Sheshan Hill It is surmounted by the Our Lady of China Catholic church, Sheshan Basilica
(formally called Zose Basilica by the west, for the Shanghainese local pronunciation of Sheshan) with its formal name as Church of the Holy Mother in China.
In 1942, Pope Pius XII ordained the She Shan Cathedral a minor Basilica. In 1946, the Holy See crowned the statue of Our Lady of Sheshan at the apex of the tower. On May 24, 2008 Pope Benedict XVI announced that he had composed a special prayer for Our Lady of Sheshan.
