I’ve never heard of an icon corner before, so this thread is very interesting to me. I like this very much. Can you tell me a little bit about OLO Sheshan - I’ve never heard of her before?
Sheshan (Chinese: 佘山) Hill is a pilgrimage site in Shanghai, China. Though it is not very known globally, it is probably the most famous/popular pilgrimage site in (PR) China. (and yes, I’m Chinese) According to Wikipedia, She Shan is the only active pilgrimage site for Roman Catholics in China.

Sheshan Hill It is surmounted by the Our Lady of China Catholic church, Sheshan Basilica
(formally called Zose Basilica by the west, for the Shanghainese local pronunciation of Sheshan) with its formal name as Church of the Holy Mother in China.

In 1942, Pope Pius XII ordained the She Shan Cathedral a minor Basilica. In 1946, the Holy See crowned the statue of Our Lady of Sheshan at the apex of the tower. On May 24, 2008 Pope Benedict XVI announced that he had composed a special prayer for Our Lady of Sheshan.

PRAYER OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI TO OUR LADY OF SHESHAN ON THE OCCASION OF THE WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE CHURCH IN CHINA (24 MAY 2008):

If I get the chance to go to China, I’ll definitely check it out. It’s awesome hearing of Chinese Catholic/Orthodox brethren, in the PRC. I actually came across an icon featuring the martyrs, from the Boxer Rebellion, at the Orthodox church I go to. It was pretty neat stuff.

Sure welcome to visit anytime. For the icon, do you mean the one of (Russian Rite) Orthodox Martyrs? since there are two, one for the Russian Orthodox Martyrs one for the Catholic Martyrs.

If I’ve not said before, I’m actually Latin Rite Catholic. But I have the most respect and interest to other rites of the Holy Church, especially in Eastern icons (this came from the guy I used to date, who was crazy about Eastern icons, a Roman Catholic on the edge of converting to Russian Orthodoxy).

Here’s my completed (I think, anyway) icon corner!
I like it! Thanks for sharing! A couple of questions…

Is that a rosary I see in the left side of the pic?
Who is in the icon in the upper right with the green shirt?

Yes that is a rosary, and the icon is of St. Evgeny Rodionov (not officially glorified). 🙂

Thanks! I had never heard of him before. I did a quick google search for him, read up on him briefly, and was glad I did. Thanks for the info!

Beautiful! 🙂
Thank you! 🙂

No problem. 👍 His story is indeed inspiring, but sadly he’ll likely never be officially glorified due to controversy (those that are pushing his canonization are Russian nationalists/communists that are doing so for political reasons).

Whoa! Very cool! In this photo, what is on the table? The things I’m questioning specifically are the two bottles, the icons on the diptych, the picture on the back right, and the big thing lying flat in the center front.
The two bottles are Holy Oil used in the Sacrament of Unction. The priest at a Greek Orthodox parish gave me some (before I later learned from that I wasn’t supposed to have them).

I made the Coptic Icons of Christ and the Theotokos into a diptych using this store’s Icons: orthodoxbookstore.org/copticicons.aspx

The picture on the back right is of St Gemma Galgani and contains a second class relic in it.

The “big thing lying flat in the center front” is a (non-consecrated) Coptic Altar Holy Tablet: stmosesbookstore.org/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=ilvm_fly_showroom_mall.tpl&product_id=1536&category_id=16&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=2 It is used similar to the Byzantine Antimension/Antimins. A consecrated Altar Holy Tablet can be placed on any surface in order to use it as an Altar. It is essentially a portable Altar.

Also, in the middle-back of table is a candelabra (or menorah) and a Byzantine travel Communion “for the sick” set used to symbolically represent the Tabernacle: easternchristiansupply.biz/-#supplies/c98/c117/c77/46096

Nice icon room! Did it take a while to collect all these icons?

The Ethiopian Orthodox uze a flat tablot (called tabot) that is representative of the stone ten commandments and it is always covered in processions just like the actual Ark would be. They cannot have the Divine Liturge (Mass) without the stone tabot.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church has claimed for a long time that they have the true Ark of the Covenant inside of a guarded building that know one besides the current monk/caretaker is allowed to see. The tabot is considered an extension of the real Ark.

See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabot and chmai.loxinfo.co.th/~scmh/book.html
