I have an icon corner of my own, though sadly I cannot upload a picture yet. I have the Theotokos of Kazan on the left, Christ Pantocrator on the right, St. Gregory the Great, St. Joseph and the conception of John the Forerunner on the left as well, and Sts. Anthony and Michael on the right. I have a latin crucifix in the center, and a Divine Mercy icon above that. It’s not really a corner- it’s more of a dresser top. Though the sand-filled pot with taper candles along with the regular candlesticks does make for a nice eastern look. Of course, I have my prayer cards, my rosary, my horologion, menaion, bible, eastern and western prayerbooks, and my breviary. I actually use both- though not at the same time of course. I sort of consider myself more of a hybrid Eastern/Western Catholic than anything else.
talk about breathing with both lungs 👍

Your Icon corner sounds nice. :highprayer: The best Icon corner is the one that leads you to pray wholeheartedly. My Icon corner is completely Byzantine/Coptic with a Western Spanish (Christ bruised and bleeding) Crucifix. I also have a holy card of St Gemma Galgani with a 2nd class relic. If it helps you to pray and keeps your mind on Christ, who cares what whether it has Western and/or Eastern elements in it. 👍
Is this like a home shrine? Some latin Catholics do this too. Though they are more likely to have statues in addition to holy pictures and rosary. St Joseph will likely take a prominent place as well. He’s the head of our families and protector too. My family is all Protestant. I don’t have such a corner. But I’ve had the divine mercy picture on the wall next to my bed just above my head. I’ve had him for more than ten years and I always had great affection and devotion to him though I didn’t know until recently just what the picture signified. I’ve prayed on my knees before this picture countless times. There’s a picture of our lady pointing to her immaculate heart right next to it that I’ve had for at least seven years. I’ve been meaning to get a good picture or statue of St. Joseph to keep in my room and a picture of the holy family. This thread has inspired me to go ahead and do it … I may add a picture of the little flower too. Of course, like any good Latin I have a beautiful crucifix as well. Mine is golden and non-bloody. I don’t like bloody images.

Zechariah I’ve read about your devotion to St Gemma Galgani before. Just wanted to say that I share it too! 🙂 I went through an excruciating experience with a sick parent earlier this year and I discovered her during this period. She’s so lovely it really is a shock to me how little known she is. I relied on this beautiful little saint, our lady of sorrows and St. Joseph during that hell and purgatory that I tasted. She’s such a wonderful help. I plan on naming one of my daughters after her. Now back to the topic of the thread! 😛

Yes, I’d say that an Icon corner is like a home shrine. It is a place to pray in front of with Icons (ie Holy Images) and other devotional objects. You can look through earlier posts in this thread for examples.

I love St Gemma! I’ve read a lot of her writings/quotes. She is a patron of people with headaches and I’ve had severe, daily, non-stop headaches for five years. I’ve been to just about every kind of doctor and know one knows what’s causing it.

You’ve probably seen this website but I’ll share it just incase. Here is a website that has tons of St Gemma’s writings and quotes: stgemmagalgani.com

Oh yes, that site is where I discovered st. Gemma. 🙂 I hope she helps with the headaches- St Teresa of Avila is also patroness of those who suffer headaches too. Of course who better than St. Joseph and his holy oil? I guess you could never have too many intercessors, lol! 😛

I’ve looked around, the word that Latin Catholics use is ‘‘home alter’’, but it’s pretty much the same thing as an icon corner. I am all psyched to make one for myself after this thread! 🙂

Do make one! It is certainly a blessing to set aside a place to be holy unto our God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Also, it reminds us that the Saints are invisibly present.
