Showing up to Mass Late?

My 80-ish old mother would show up for 7:30a.m. late every day…Let me say this again…EVERY DAY she went to Mass, but always arrived a little late. The priest at St. Ambrose, at that time, stopped the Mass and asked her why she bothers coming at all. She was mortified. She has struggled every day with why this priest would be so ignorant and rude to an old lady. She also struggles with trying top get over the feeling of such a dislike towards a priest.
 
Ouch. If it were my mom, I’d have a difficult time not taking him to task (in private, of course).

Stopping mass and singling someone out is inexcusable.

It’s clear that priest handled it wrong, but I don’t think he was wrong to handle the matter. That priest should have handled the matter in private with a great deal more tact and love

But what kept your mom from arriving on time? Transportation? While there are most certainly some legitimate reasons to arrive late or leave early they don’t apply to most. I have come to this conclusion.

Pastors rarely provide adequate feedback and catechesis to those who arrive late and/or leave early. Far too many have never been taught even in their secular worlds (or they have forgotten) just how rude it is to arrive late and/or leave early. They test things and soon the behavior become normative.

I don`t blame her for being mortified & The priest was indeed rude to an older lady
