Do you have a favourite shrine of our Lady?

I am thinking especially of West European ones but maybe you like others.

I’d be interested to know what makes it special for you.

I am hoping to visit some over the coming months / years and would be interested to know other people’s views and feelings.

THANK YOU

Knock, Knock…Our Lady’s shrine in County Mayo

Knock is my favorite because our farm & house is only 15 minutes from there. ☘️

Pax Christi!

It’s not really a shrine in the usual sense, but for me, the cathedral of Nôtre Dame de Chartres still occaisionally brings a tear to my eye.

Lots of stories I could share…

God bless. (sniffle)

The one described here, and which I visit frequently since it is near where I live: Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted:

I couldn’t find any suitable pictures, the Friars have not finished the website, but there is a Franciscan monastery, a beautiful church, several wayside shrines (one in memory of the aborted unborn), an outdoor chapel, and an absolutely beautiful Stations of the Cross set in the woods surrounding the shrine, which is dedicated to the suffering of the Hungarian people during the Communist regime. It is very popular, but not crowded one bit, and an ideal place for Confession and Mass (held every day) and then an afternoon’s walk and meditation on the Stations–the walk is about 1/2 mile long, and one can also sit in one of many little “groves” as I call them and read or pray.

Besides Mass and Confession, there are frequent devotions held in the church, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, spiritual direction, private sessions can be scheduled for one’s group, and a gift shop. There are four priests living there and running the shrine.

So that is my favorite little gem of a shrine. 🙂

It doesn’t quite meet the criterion of being in Western Europe, Carolyn, but lovely all the same. I’d love to visit one day.

I went to Knock and loved the simplicity of it.

Anyone been to the Belgian ones?

Have you a poem for World Poetry Day?
Sorry–you wrote “but maybe you like others.” I must have misunderstood. Anyway, I’ve never been to Europe, so I can’t comment.

I love The Fatima Shrine, were Our lady appeared to the children of Fatima, and also Lourdes.

I’m definitely going to endorse Svid2’s suggestion. Chartres Cathedral is perhaps the most amazing place dedicated to Our Lady in the world. Off the beaten track, though, there are as well some incredible smaller, local shrines of Our Lady throughout. The Shrine of Our Lady of Bonaria in Sardinia comes to mind. The Holy Father, coming from a place named after her, is a known devotee.

God bless.
