I am working on my problem - shyness - when talking with others. I don’t know how I’ve got this kind of problem but I think it might have something to do with culture and the time when I was raised as a kid.

Couple of months ago, my friend and I discussed about this problem, and he said that for us to overcome shyness is to see Christ in everyone and to not judge them.

For example: today, I was on my way back to work from a church, I saw an old lady who was having problem parking her car. It took me about 2 minutes to finally offer my help. All sorts of thinking had come to my mind - “What if she thinks I will steal her car if she lets me park for her?”. “What if she doesn’t need my help?” …“I am too afraid to ask.”… “What if she is not here for the mass?”…

As you see, I misjudged her.

What are the general reasons for being shy?

I don’t know what the reasons are for being shy, but I am definitely a shy person. In my last job people thought I was kind of stand-offish because I really didn’t talk that much. But as time passed and I started to come out of my shell, they told me how nice and sweet I was (HA! Tell that to my DH! :D)

For me, I just don’t want to say or do the wrong thing and I much rather observe things around me than to be in the middle of them.

I’ve started to say hi or gives a “small” smile to strangers who walk toward me on the same sidewalk. 😃 I don’t remember if people did this in my country, Vietnam.

Dear, gentle, Water,

How many times I have read your posts and felt a sweetness inside. Shy? No, I would say quietly humble. Accept the beauty within you as you are.

Have you ever noticed that [lilies of the valley](http://www.waysidegardens.com/webap...ay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10151&langId=-1&ma(name removed by moderator)age=LGprodview&ItemId=8304&cid=wpp000552y) grow only in the shade? … yet they have the most heavenly fragrance that lifts us to praise!

Contrast the huge sunflower, which is stately, but has no scent.

It is a wise gardener who discovers the beauty of these little flowers, for though they hide within their leaves, anyone who comes near them cannot escape the wondrous odors they emit.

There is a difference between shyness and thoughtfulness.
It is not that off to take couple minutes evaluating a situation before action.
You can take initiative to greet people and talk well with them, you are fine. 🙂

People perceive me as shy too. They say I’m quiet. I am, but I’m not, when I’m around people that I really know & have a very interesting topic to talk about. With strangers, it depends also.

Thanks Joysong. I really like the flowers. They are small and I normally like small flowers. The one in the picture you posted reminds me of Virgin Mary – how she is always shown with her head looking down.

I am still working on taking initiative. 🙂

yes, I am more comfortable with those whom I know for quite sometime, but I am still more opened to a very few people.

Who else but you would notice this uniqueness! How lovely!
