I’m ready to give up on it honestly. I’m so sick and tired of the one sidedness of the media, so sick and tired of all the back and forth and finger pointing between politicians and governors and senators and everyone. I’m so sick and tired of cancel culture and the mark that social media is leaving on the minds of the youth. What’s the point of it anymore? Nobody wants to even sit down and have discussions, it’s all vitriol and all it ever does is make people more angry on both sides. Does anyone else feel this way?

Yes. I rarely watch the news anymore. It’s the same thing over and over. So why bother watching it? 🥴

I am watching more of what a politician in my country and state has to say then ever before.
That is Dan Andrews who gives daily updates on the corona virus in my state and who is very good at deflecting any manure from other politicians, journalists or others.

His standard answer is ‘I am not interested in having an argument with that person. I am only interested in getting rid of this wicked virus so we can have Christmas with our families in safety’. He is not Catholic, he should be 🙂

It would appear the media and politics have been directed toward views and “entertainment” and not so much toward governing and leading the country to know truth. It’s filled with lies and hatred. It has been led to become a place of exile for those who seek a temporary home (country) and society of moral goodness and true freedom.

Alas, our true home is above…

Of course I get sick of it, too!

I discovered a long time ago that I have a finger that can turn off the TV or computer and two legs that can walk away from pointless arguing. I’m savvy enough to get any news from multiple sources and I’ve also gotten quite good at picking out the facts from the opinions.

When I grow weary, I walk away. Life’s too short for anyone to have to tolerate the intolerable. It’s not even hard to do!

There’s an “Off” button on your news and political channels, and millions of other websites to view on the Internet of all kinds of other apolitical stuff.

Except, politics is beginning to invade every aspect of modern life now. It’s not as simple as it used to be.

Many if not most of my hobby and community online groups have implemented a “no politics” rule for a long time now because nobody in those groups wants to hear it. So I can very happily read about opossum rescue or classic rock without having to deal with it.

Regarding politics invading aspects of life, if you’re in USA we have a very competitive election coming up in a couple months, so of course politics are on people’s minds. Post-election, things will die down a bit.

I don’t watch the news or any form of TV. I don’t read the paper. I don’t look on the Internet for news items. My wife does, but I only allow her to tell me the good news. Nothing about politics. Nothing about horrific things occurring in the county or around the world. I only want to know the COVID-19 status. I figure if the world goes to war and there’s a nuclear missile headed my way, I’d rather die in ignorance than be fretting and worrying over the last few moments of my life. If I am right with the Lord, everything will be okay.

Keep your toes crossed.

It was going to be Easter. Then it wss going to be summer. Now Christmas.

I’m beginning to think we will never get life back, what with all the reinfection horror stories.

If you don’t want to go cold turkey, you could do what I do to keep current on the state of the country and world while avoiding total immersion. Skim the headlines at bbc.com, don’t spend a lot of time in the US news category, and avoid any article about a US politician saying something outrageous or doing something stupid. That’ll eliminate a lot of what bugs you.

I think it’s important to be an informed citizen and voter, but right now I’m also overloaded with political news and opinion. I care for my elderly mother, and she’s a political junkie. She keeps the cable news on all day long. We Catholics have a long tradition of offering up our suffering and little annoyances, so with the example of the Little Flower in my mind I try to stay cheerful around my mom as she frets over the things she sees on the news.

I come to CAF to feel a sense of the Catholic community I’m missing due to the pandemic, but even here political news and opinion is very prominent now, and I sometimes get drawn in to the arguments, though I usually regret it later.

Me, too! I never thought I would live to see what’s going on in our country, right now. There’ve been hints of it coming for the last several decades – yet, few of us could have imagined it would come this far. Seems like all stops have been pulled out, and there just aren’t any limits or restraints, anymore.

St. Vincent de Paul forbid his priests to talk about politics because he knew how divisive they are. Bl. Frederik Ozanam and his friends, in the early days of the St. Vincent de Paul Society would meet once a week for fellowship where any subject was on the table, except politics. If any of our members decide to run for political office, we wish them the best but ask that they disassociate themselves from the Society.

So, as a Vincentian, it’s hard for me to understand how any Catholic can get wound up about politics or any politician. The Church compels us to make an informed vote, but to endorse or support any candidate is beyond me. Those that do can be annoying to be around.

I guess I’m fortunate that in my current situation, people are optional and I really don’t have to put up with anyone’s political agenda. If politicals or the media are bugging me, it’s easy enough to avoid them.

That’s what the liberals want you to do…give up. Much of what is going on is because of President Trump’s Pro Life policies…don’t forget the Russian hoax…Pelosi just said today that if the left retains the house they are getting rid of the Hyde amendment.

I keep wanting to abandon the political threads on here but it’s like a drug.

My experience with politicals is a lot like my experience with protestants; you can tell what type your dealing with by the words they choose. In the case of Catholics, if they speak in terms which I never hear from the pulpit, they’re soundly ignored.

OP: Does anyone else feel this way?
His Highness Quasitenebrous VI Penultimus can say that he never feels that way, because he has outlawed “cancel culture” throughout the Realm. The subjects of Umberia are judged by their present actions, not by their tweets from 14.56 years ago which they typed when they were fourteen years old.

The social media junkies of Umberia joined the Thomists last year in being exiled from the Realm. The Surgeon General of the Kingdom reports that mental health is up 32%.
