I’ve been saying the Rosary daily for many months now, and just recently I found my old brown scapular that my mother gave me way back in the 70’s. Well I decided to wear it until I could buy a new one since the old one is so faded. Actually yesterday I looked at the old scapular and thought that I should really, really get a new one,
Well, today as I was cleaning out my mom’s basement, I came across a box stuffed under a shelf that was full of my old ceramics projects from high school. I looked at the stuff in the box and thought, “I don’t want to go through this stuff, I should just toss it all.” Then a thought came into my mind “go through it.” So I started pawing through the awful ceramics and was just about to quit when I picked up one more terrible looking vase (I was awful at ceramics) and underneath it was attached something. I thought “eww… what is this stringy thing,” and then I saw that it was a brown scapular.
The exact scapular my mother gave me in the 70’s but one that was never worn. I just laughed and knew immediately that Mary gave it to me to replace my old one. Why would an unused scapular be stuffed under a ceramic vase, stuffed in a box, that was stuffed under a shelf in my mother’s hoarded basement and I magically came across it one day after I determined that I really, really needed to replace my old one? Answer - Mary. She sent it to me as a sign of faith. She hears my prayers everyday during the Rosary and I know she is looking after me.
I did not know much about the brown scapular but found out that both praying the rosary and wearing the brown scapular daily are requests of Our Lady and signs of consecration to her. She always comes to the aid of those who entrust themselves to her maternal intercession and protection. Mary has showed me so many signs and this is one more. The power of the Rosary is real.
