Hi
It is mentioned in NTBible that Jesus promised to show Sign of Jonah to the Jews (I think Catholics take it metaphorically, and they also include themselves in the wide term “Jews”).This is supposed to be the greatest sign Jesus showed. My Catholic friend Kellie from Australia intends to declare herself a ProphetMessenger in supposition. She has read the account of Jonah a true Prophet in OTBible, Jesus also believed in him as such. Suppose, if you had been in Nineveh when Jonah presented himself before his people that Jonah was a ProphetMessenger of GodAllahYHWH. If you would have accepted him; on what criteria? If you would have not accepted him, on what criteria?"
This would facilitate my Catholic friends to accept Kellie a fellow Catholic a candidate of ProphetMessenger in supposition, or reject her, unprejudiced.
Please answer with references from OTBible as to the **Claim **and Reason. We would all discuss that the Criteria is a fair one for all times.
Thanks

Mat 12:39 Who answering said to them: An evil and adulterous generation seeketh a sign: and a sign shall not be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.
Mat 12:40 For as Jonas was in the whale’s belly three days and three nights: so shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.

I think that he is saying that his death and 3 days in the tomb before being resurrected is the ‘sign of Jonah’, who spent the same length of time in a whale’s belly before being spit out.

Hi
Please mention the Claim and Reason from the text of Book of Jonah in OTBible, clear straight passages, not what you wish to see there, but it is in fact there.
Thanks

The problem here with some of my Christian friends is that they don’t let God speak for himself. If they would have done it they would find a straight passage from the OTBible on every important issue, if Bible is a living book that answers every rational question. When they don’t get support from the Bible, they think they are wiser than God, so they try putting words into God’s mouth first for the Claim and then for the Reason which is usually not found there. One is left wondering if the Christian God is living and All-Wise.

paarsurrey, you misunderstood Chris LaRock’s answer. He gave you direct quotations from Jesus in the Bible (Matthew 12:39-40) stating that the sign would be that, as Jonah was in the whale’s belly for three days, so shall He be in the belly of the earth (after His death on the cross) for three days.

You have no proof that “God” spoke in the Quran! You only have Muhammad’s word that he did!

The sign of Jonah means “repent convert or you will be destroy”. That was the message that Jonah had to give to the people of Ninive.

The same sign was for the Pharises, When Jesus was preaching. Convert or God will end his covenant with you.
and 30 years after the cruxifiction of Jesus the temple of Jerusalen was destroyed.

Hi
There are many logical aspects of the Sign of Jonah, the one pointed by my Catholic friends is not yet in question, please.
Here Catholics friends have been requested to help Kellie, a fellow Catholic, for her being a ProphetMessenger, in supposition, of GodAllahYHWH. She could be accepted by other Catholics if she had a Criteria of a true/false Prophet deducible from book of Jonah from the OTBible. Jonah was a Prophet whom Jesus is on record having acknowledged, any Criteria that is fit for Jonah may be right one. If Kellie also fits in that Criteria then other Catholics might be tempted to follow/accept her.
Please help her in her endeavor, if you can.
Thanks

Was Jesus dead for 3 days and 3 nights though?

This gets into how time was reckoned.
A day was any part of a day not what we consider a day now.
Friday was one day
Saturday was the second day
Sunday was the third. The answer to your question is yes.

I can equate the belly of the whale to be the world we are swallowed up into by our disobedience or neglect and our coming out to be our conversions. No greater sign than this.

Hi
To me neither Jesus was dead for 3 days and 3 nights nor Jonah, both were in near dead position, both gained consciousness and saved their life, both came out alive and then went to their people, both died a natural and respectful death sometimes later among their people who accepted them.

But we were discussing Criterea for Kellie’s Prophethood in supposition.Anybody to share his views on this.
Thanks

Sounds new age.

Give us proof that Jesus did not die on the cross.

I did not see any proof. Give us something that will convince us.
Joh 19:33 But on coming to Jesus, when they saw He was dead already, they did not break His legs.
Joh 19:34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a lance, and at once blood and water came out.

Mat 27:42 He saved others; He is not able to save Himself. If He is the King of Israel, let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe Him.

Mar 15:32 The Christ, the king of Israel? Let Him now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe. And the ones crucified with Him defamed Him.

Because of your lack of command of the English language you can be very confusing. Consider the posting of the following

I have no idea what a prophet messenger in supposition is. It isn’t anything Catholic despite your claim that your friend is. Can you explain what you mean?

Sounds like inferring some sort of infallible power to her as a prophet.

Again, sounds like a new age control tactic to me. One where others are made to be in supposition to some femanist angel of light obviously not of God.

Incredible this notion comes on a christian site from one who doubts Christ’s redemption. Very indicitive of new age nonesense.

Hi
I think you would understand, despite my deficiency in English, by reading the post #32 of Jun 19, '07, 7:38 pm by kellie
from Melbourne, Australia on the thread titled “Jesus died in India”
Kellie said addressing me,
“So if I tell you that I have received a message from God that I am to be His prophet here in Australia, you will believe me?”
It was in this context that this discussion is made. I don’t claim to be proficiant in English, please.
I think the matter in now clear to you.
