Sign of Peace on Good Friday

I was just wondering why we didn’t use the sign of each at the Passion service yesterday?

Obviously I know that the Passion Service is a sombre occasion but I thought that, as Jesus died to save us we would still give each other the sign of peace as a reminder of that?

Its just a communion service. And a time of mourning no sign of peace.

The sign of peace is exchanged during Mass .

It wasn’t a Mass on Good Friday .

Adding to the other responses: There is no provision in the Roman Missal for the sign of peace at the end of the Lord’s Prayer at the point in the Good Friday liturgy where the Communion Service begins. Not even an option. Agree that in what is essentially a service or mourning, that would introduce a jarring note – especially inasmuch as the exchange of peace tends to get out of control in some parishes.

The simple answer is because it is a very solemn service. At the point of the communion service we are still in awe over what Christ did for us on the cross…going directly into a sign of peace would seem awkward at best. We will celebrate on Saturday night bringing out all the smells, bells, etc…!!
