I read somewhere that during transubstantiation you are supposed to make the sign of the cross. How true is this?
What do you mean? During the consecration(when the bread and wine turn into the Boyd and Blood) or when you receive the Eucharist?I read somewhere that during transubstantiation you are supposed to make the sign of the cross. How true is this?
Transubstantiation occurs at the moment of the Consecration. The only one who makes the sign of the cross during the Eucharistic Prayer is the celebrant. What do you mean? During the consecration(when the bread and wine turn into the Boyd and Blood) or when you receive the Eucharist?

I’m aware of when it occurs. Also, my mom and I always made the Sign of the Cross whenever the consecration happened and the bells rang.Transubstantiation occurs at the moment of the Consecration. The only one who makes the sign of the cross during the Eucharistic Prayer is the celebrant.
Only in the first Eucharistic prayer, and it occures after the concecration, towards the end of the EP.Transubstantiation occurs at the moment of the Consecration. The only one who makes the sign of the cross during the Eucharistic Prayer is the celebrant.
Wait, where does it say that no one should make a sign of the cross at Mass aside from the beginning and ending? For the laity of course.Only in the first Eucharistic prayer, and it occures after the concecration, towards the end of the EP.
No one should make the sign of the cross any time during mass, except at the opening and closing prayer and blessing. In the EF there would be many more crosses signed.
What about people who make the sign of the cross after receiving Eucharist? Is this wrong? I realize you are Eastern, not sure if it is okay for the Roman Rite to do.Wait, where does it say that no one should make a sign of the cross at Mass aside from the beginning and ending? I make the Sign of the Cross in the Byzantine fashion at the mention of the name of the Theotokos at the mention of her name in the Canon and in the Confiteor.Only in the first Eucharistic prayer, and it occures after the concecration, towards the end of the EP.

I’ve done it all the time I was Roman Catholic and no one has told me otherwise. I don’t know why it would be wrong to do so.What about people who make the sign of the cross after receiving Eucharist? Is this wrong? I realize you are Eastern, not sure if it is okay for the Roman Rite to do.
God bless.
Totally Agree. It is a further personal act of Faith. I don’t see any harm.I’ve done it all the time I was Roman Catholic and no one has told me otherwise. I don’t know why it would be wrong to do so.
Yes, I mean there are definitely inappropriate times to make a sign of the cross. But to claim that you cannot absolutely do it at anytime in the Mass other than the beginning and end is just head scratching, to say the least.Totally Agree. It is a further personal act of Faith. I don’t see any harm.
I seen many Catholics make the sign of the Cross after receiving Holy Communion.
I would really love to see a source for this. There is a massive difference between documents which state that there are certain times that the Laity are supposed to make the sign of the cross and stating that they are never to do so outside of those times. I have a very difficult time believing your statements to be accurate. However, I am open to correction should you be able to provide an authoritative source. No one should make the sign of the cross any time during mass, except at the opening and closing prayer and blessing. In the EF there would be many more crosses signed.
I know I have done it. Do you know why we do it? Where it orginated? I guess the longer I am in my Faith, I am interested in where things came from.I’ve done it all the time I was Roman Catholic and no one has told me otherwise. I don’t know why it would be wrong to do so.
Frankly I’ve done a lot of things because I personally figured out it would be better to do it that way. A lot of thinking and soul searching. Even when I started genuflecting before receiving, I did it even though no one told me so. That was way, way before I even joined CAF. Perhaps CAF didn’t even exist back then. I just though its not right to receive and just go. The time I am making the sign of the cross is the short moment I would appreciate just what happened.I know I have done it. Do you know why we do it? Where it orginated? I guess the longer I am in my Faith, I am interested in where things came from.
God bless.
While this is a GREAT practice it is not mandated.=White Peony;8084499]I read somewhere that during transubstantiation you are supposed to make the sign of the cross. How true is this?
Sorry folks, I’ve been out of touch for a few days and I will be in retreat starting tonight through Sunday.Only in the first Eucharistic prayer, and it occures after the concecration, towards the end of the EP.
