And of course, making the sign of the cross after receiving is not compulsory. Very few in our parish do it, and those that do, make it in such a minimal form it almost looks irreverent…
I don’t remember ever doing this at any church. My old 1962 missal has a cross there in the Latin Mass, but all of the red crosses in the text are the places where the priest did the sign of the cross. I don’t know why a lay person would do so.
