I am in the PRE-RCIA stage and found out that I can pray the rosary, but can I make the sign of the cross? Or do I need to be a confimred Catholic for this?

When you get to RCIA, you will go through the rite of Acceptence(assuming you are unbaptised; if you are, it is the rite of Welcoming) where you are marked with the sign of the Cross and the oil of catechumens. Then you are officialy ‘Catholic’ and could have a Catholic funeral and such.

Anyone can make the sign of the cross; there are some Lutheran churches who make a practice of doing so.

You may use any of the Catholic prayers and customs and participate in any prayer activities except for the reception of the seven sacraments - Baptism, Confirmation, Receiving the Eucharist [Communion], Confession, and Anointing of the Sick. I am not sure about marriage [and I presume Ordination is not a matter of concern
].After the Rite of Acceptance, which is the official entrance to RCIA, you would be given the appropriate sacraments immediately if you were in a life threatening situation.

things such as the sign of the cross are called sacramentals. They do not adhere to any authority, and as such can be used by anyone (even non-catholic) freely.
So off the top of my head, typical ones include the sign of the cross, holy water, and rosary beads. Anyone can use them, and I think it is quite nice that someone who is outside of the Church would make such a profession of faith seriously.

Good point. My mom is Methodist and always makes the Sign of the Cross, she also taught us the Rosary and all our Catholic prayers.

Before my baptism and confirmation, I was encouraged to participate both in and out of Mass as much as possible, i.e. sign of the cross, learning prayers, etc. I found it very spiritually fulfilling in helping me in my faith journey and growing in Christ while also helping me personally to feel more a part of my Catholic community. JMO!! Peace!
