Signs of Spiritual Warfare

Hi all,

Over the past several days, some friends and I have been noting the signs of spiritual warfare in our area, and know there is a battle being fought. (Not 100% sure yet what this battle is over – still discerning – but it is quite tangibly there.) For that, I would ask your prayers.

I wanted to ask you all, what signs of spiritual warfare are you familiar with? (i.e., the presence of flies sometimes signals that evil is about, etc.) I’m just curious as to what others have noted, partly to make sure I’m not overlooking anything important, and also to expand my knowledge of the subject. We’ve been seeing some strange things, like random dead birds – and yesterday, yellowjackets, which are quite uncommon here at the beginning of December.

Yup, flies indeed signal that evil is about … rubbish is indeed evil, and rubbish attracts flies. 🤷

‘Random dead birds’? I’d be much more worried about dead birds lying in a neat pattern on the ground … perhaps spelling out the name of the Prince of Darkness himself (Ozzy 😛 ) or something …

As for seeing birds earlier in December than usual … well, you ever noticed what screwy weather we’ve had the last few years? (Thanks to all that lovely fossil-fuel induced climate change!)

Seriously, the Prince of Darkness doesn’t necessarily advertise His presence in ways that make you go ‘yup, there’s Satan’ … he’s much more likely to do the soft-talking, seductive ‘angel-of-light’ kinda thing, wins him more souls that way y’know.

I’d have to agree with Lily on that one. Satan is far more subtle in his seductions. He knows you can catch a lot more people with honey than with flies. . .

Instead of strange signs in nature, be on the lookout instead for people who say evil things are good, and even a right to be protected. Those same people will feel justified in persecuting those who disagree. Just look at the culture of death we live in, and signs of spiritual warfare abound.

I wouldn’t trust that website Becky linked. It’s very questionable. If you have questions like this I would take it to a priest, maybe they can put your mind at ease.

Yes, I realize that Satan generally works in more subtle ways.

Believe me, I have plenty of experience with those kind of nicely wrapped attacks! This is not one of them.

I think the point got lost here. This is not one of those global-seductions-by-Satan things. We all know those abound, and it’s not too hard to see them day to day!

What I am talking about is a very tangible spiritual battle, on the local level, here. This is not a trite or childish thing. I had noticed some very strange things over the weekend, and had some urgent promptings in prayer that had concerned me. One of my close friends is a priest, and when I talked to him about it, he told me he had noticed some things that were decidedly out of the ordinary, as well – while he was saying Mass, and then outside the church. I understand I’m probably seeming quite vague here, but I don’t feel entirely comfortable sharing all the details. As for the birds, there were two crows, at the edge of the street by the church, one with its neck clearly broken.

Satan’s attacks are generally more insidious, I certainly agree. However, sometimes his wicked intentions are manifested in other ways… I dare to say perhaps because our Lord wishes us to join the battle in prayer.
 
I’m going to have to say that the flies and yellowjackets are due to the weather. I know where we are, we have had cold days, flies die or sleep, then it warms up, flies wake up. Same with the yellowjackets. As for the birds. A dead bird is just that, a dead bird. Might have flown into a window. Sounds like you are looking for trouble! Running around thinking every bug and bird is a sign and wanting others to believe it too. You want to frighten people with these things, which can very easily be explained away. There has always been spiritual warfare, as Satan wants to fight God at every possible moment. But I have difficulty believing the credibility of people who bring up things like bugs and birds as signs of Satan’s fight.
If you have a lot of flies, it could be because your garbage needs to go out. Or it could be from the dead bird. Get a fly swatter and move on.
 
Content, advice, self proclaimed “expert”, seemingly self proclaimed “Brother”. Anyone can throw up a web site and claim anything they want… Create documents claiming anything they want… Ask for money without any accountability of what and whom the money is used for.

It’s plugged on this forum constantly by the people involved with it trying to “sell” it as reliable. Frankly I wish the moderators would put a stop to it.

Veritas - if I were you I would stick to legitimate sources. Priest, Church, and CAF even! (Although by CAF I don’t necessarily mean the message boards they’re not always accurate). If you’re concerned, try posting in “Ask the Apologist”… or, again, go to your priest.
 
I’m not so sure about Satan manifesting himself in nature, but I think it is quite possible that our sin has reached the point that it is affecting nature.

One example of this is the deformed fish in the Colorado River that have become that way due to contraceptive drugs working their way from the sewers to the rivers. The fish are deformed in a similar way that our souls have become deformed by embracing contraception.

At any rate, if the disturbances in nature remind us to pray, perhaps that is God speaking to us.

Wow, you sound just like another user whom I responded to in this post.

You still haven’t responded as to exactly what teaching on the site is questionable. Instead you employ the typical obfuscation tactic of attacking the messenger since you have no argument against the message itself.

And your accusation that there are people plugging this site and trying to “sell it” is absolutely false. You make it sound like there is some vast conspiracy, when in fact I am the only person associated with that site who posts links. Any other CAF members who do so are not associated with the OLSM. They post links for the same reason I do - because the information is helpful.

Teaching? You mean his personal opinions? One need only go review the discussion board at that site to see which of his personal opinions are questionable. Not to mention he claims to provide deliverance “over the phone”. That throws up some red flags.

Oh, okay. Well since this is personal, perhaps further comments need to go to PM, rather than continuing to derail this thread. My apologies to the OP.
 
My neighbor called me one day last year to say there were flies all over her window. No garbage around. It was a little creepy. She always has some sort of turmoil in her life. :twocents:
 
veritas… my own personal experience, with spiritual warfare… is that the enemy takes advantage of my sensitive nature. I tend to be a somewhat nervous person; I find that I have little “outbreaks” (for lack of a better term) of over-sensitivity from time to time.

But Our Good Lord, has recently granted me a new “weapon” in this spiritual battle. He has inspired us to get to daily Mass as often as possible, to receive Him more often in the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion… and we have been receiving once a week Sacrament of the Sick.

A good friend reminded me just today… that Our Loving Lord, will never permit satan to tempt us more than we are able to withstand.

In the words of the Angel of Peace (from the Fatima Apparitions)…

“Pray. Pray very much”.

It is not personal at all. Just warning our friend here to watch out for dubious sources.

By dubious source I mean the website.
 
To the OP,

Will you please clarify everything?

It seems that you have been hinting in several of your posts, but only actually telling us 2 things (birds, dead and alive).

If you told us everything that was happening, I’m sure we can help more.

I find that spiritual warfare is usually more personal. I find temptations becoming stronger and more frequent, for example, and a greater resistance to prayer; esp. the Rosary but also the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Others I know have mentioned greater anxieties in their families, and greater dischord (i.e., more squabbling among both the parents and the children.)

Things like the flies or the crows MAY be signs of spiritual warfare, but could also be something as simple as your being more sensitive to things that are “off” during the warfare and seeing signs where there are none. It doesn’t mean the warfare isn’t occuring, just that the signs you’re seeing aren’t part of it.

As always, the best defense is prayer. Mine are with you and yours.
