So people say we get signs from God.

Last night I was supposed to sub for Adoration. A branch fell from the tree over the driveway and I didn’t get to go. I feel God was saying that He didn’t want me there (not that I blame Him)

Does He send signs like this?

Most times, a fallen branch is just a sign that a tree needed trimming. I’d first check the health of the tree and follow up if needed.

Sometimes being kept from a Godly activity is not God’s will, but the act of another’s will entirely.

Upon occasion, we may be spared something (an accident, mugging, etc) because we weren’t where we would have been, had our plans not been otherwise interrupted. God does intervene in the lives of men.

It’s not wrong to be prayerfully thankful for whatever God’s will might have spared you, but I think it is wise to remember that we are not to look for signs in everything that happens, lest we be ruled by superstition.

Blessings–

Hello.

I always liked Alcoholics Anonymous’s saying that “coincidence is God’s way of remaining anonymous.”

Christ calls all to him. It may be that Satan doesn’t want you to go to church, but God would never say that.

That’s exactly how I feel. God didn’t want me there. He prefers the other person instead (she was covering a three hour block and had asked me to split it.)

I’m used to it. People don’t want me around either.

Thanks to all who answered.

😦

Care to elaborate? How has the Christian community failed you?

Not really. I didn’t post to figure out why people generally don’t want me around. It’s long standing, goes back to kindergarten. It’s just my life.

I didn’t expect the same from God. However, I now know that all of religious stuff doesn’t matter and He can have his two Adoration hours back for someone that He wants to spend the time with.

That is not the character of God.

I am sorry humanity has failed you, but it is very, very wrong to project human motivations on to the Savior who loved you–yes, you–so much that He laid down His life for you.

God does not play favorites, the way we think of it, with His children. He bids us all to come to Him.

Will all due respect, I disagree.

It’s pretty clear when looking though human history that God does have favorites.

And thank you for telling me how very, very wrong I am. That’s another thing, no matter what I do, it’s never right, I can’t stay in a state of grace for more than 24 hours.

I QUIT. Bah Humbug.

God wants to heal you and show you His love. He wants to spend time with you. Right now, in the place where you are sitting, God the Father wants you to relax into His arms, so that He can show you that He chooses you, that He loves you, that you are His joy.

Don’t be afraid. He doesn’t reject you. The people who rejected you never recognized the beauty of God’s creation in you. God wants to show you people who do recognize your beauty.

Take heart! God loves you! He forgives all your wrongs, and He loves every aspect of the way He made you. He has open arms to mend your wounds and make you whole. Take heart!

This is how you feel. Bring these feelings before God. Yell at Him. Complain to Him.

Read the book of Job. Job shows us how to do it.

Lash out at God, if that’s how you feel. He can take it. And then listen to what He has to say, when you’re done screaming at Him.

No, thank you. I don’t care.

TRUSTFUL SURRENDER TO DIVINE PROVIDENCE
by St. Claude de la Colombiere

Trust in God’s Wisdom

It is then a truth of our faith that God is responsible for all the happenings we complain of in the world and, furthermore, we cannot doubt that all the misfortunes God sends us have a very useful purpose. We cannot doubt it without imputing to God a lack of judgment in deciding what is advantageous for us.
It is usually the case that other people can see better than we can ourselves what is good for us. It would be foolish to think that we can see better than God Himself, Who is not subject to any of the passions that blind us, knows the future and can foresee all events and the consequences of every action.
Experience shows that even the gravest misfortunes can have good results and the greatest successes end in disaster. A rule also that God usually follows is to attain His ends by ways that are the opposite to those human prudence would normally choose.
In our ignorance of what the future holds, how can we be so bold as to question what comes about by God’s permission?
Surely it is reasonable to think that our complaints are groundless and that instead of complaining we ought to be thanking Providence. Joseph was sold into slavery and thrown into prison. If he had felt aggrieved at these apparent misfortunes, he would really have been feeling aggrieved at his happiness for they were the steps to the throne of Egypt.
Saul loses his father’s asses and has to go on a long vain hunt for them. But if he had felt
annoyed at the great waste of time and energy it caused him, his annoyance could not have been more unreasonable as it was all a means of bringing him to the prophet who was to anoint him king of his people.
Let us imagine our confusion when we appear before God and understand the reasons why He sent us the crosses we accept so unwillingly.

Peace

No, thank you. I don’t care.
Just maybe God had the limb fall on you car so you would not have a bad accident. Especially, if as you say, you are not in the state of grace frequently. How would that be if you died that way in a car accident?

If I were you I would thank him for the tree limb falling on my car. I would tell him that I don’t know exactly why but since you did it, but that I do know that it really was for my own good and thank you.

May God bless and keep you. May God’s face shine on you. May God be kind to you and give you peace.

God is mysterious. We do not and can not fathom his ways or his will, other than as he chooses to reveal it to us. If he allowed us to see him as he is, or to understand his will, we would probably die because we are so unlike to him. When Moses asks God to reveal his name he receives the cryptic “I Am Who Am”.
What I take from that is, be still, be happy with what God gives me to know, and don’t ask questions about things I am incapable of comprehending.

In Catholic spiritual tradition, we are cautioned against trying to appropriate God’s will, or his private revelation, or “signs”, for our own understanding. In fact St John of the Cross admonishes to pay little attention to most “signs”. The reasoning is, if God wants us to know something, he will make sure we know it His “touch” will be given to us and have his desired effect. No amount of trying to understand or relive it will come to anything, and trying to do so is a distraction.

I’ve been a member of the Rosary Confraternity for a few years now. When I first started praying the Rosary, however, I had a tough time staying focused. My mind would wander and I would often find myself saying an entire decade without giving much thought to the particular mystery that I should have been meditating upon. After a couple of weeks of struggling, I decided this devotion was not for me. I decided that I would break the news to God in a prayer. I was driving my car on the Garden State Parkway at the time. I was about to bless myself and begin my prayer when a car passed me and pulled right in front of me, close enough that I could read the single bumper sticker that was on that car. The bumper sticker contained 3 words: PRAY THE ROSARY.

I’ve been praying the Rosary ever since.

I kind of do believe in signs. Maybe God was saving you from a road accident.

Please remember that God always has your good in mind. He would love for you to spend time with him. Just because you may feel rejected by others in the past, does not mean that God has rejected you. He would never do that.

‘Come unto me all you who labor and are heavy burdened, and I will give you rest.’ Ask Jesus to come more deeply into your life and to help you understand his love for you. This ‘understanding’, however, may take time, so don’t give up. Just keep asking.

You’re in my prayers.
