Alrighty Cat, in response to your quote #23 and to follow up on mine, #24, I have this to report…although I considered sending you a PM so as to let sleeping dogs lie but then I reconsidered…there may actually be some poster out there with the tiniest bit of interest in my reply.
After waiting 20 minutes for the pouring rain to let up, I decided to leave for church in order to get there at minimum, 30 minutes before mass started this morning. I entered the church SOAKING wet (not a dry spot on me and to tell the truth, the darkened shade of my dress was more appealing to my vanity

). I gave up trying to pat myself dry (forgot my umbrella) so I completed my prep duties for reading. I then went to the foyer and commenced opening the front door and greeting people as they entered.
I made a point to wish everyone a good morning in a friendly manner complete with smiles and a handshake. *I also made a point to keep my voice low but audible. *
Most of my fellow brothers and sisters ignored my handshake but did smile and/or respond in return. What was interesting is that those who entered loudly, became quiet after I spoke to them.
During this time, I couldn’t tell if it was quiet in the church before mass started because the silence was deafening.
Seriously, it was a bit quieter than usual inside the church. Might have had something to do with the bad weather though.

.
I remained greeting people until time for the procession. After mass ended I rushed to the foyer eager to build bridges (shoving children and slowpokes out of the way-----just kidding

). I opened the doors from the church into the foyer and wished people an even toned good bye and a good rest of the day. Nearly everyone responded!
I didn’t have the chance to chat with anyone in the parking lot…everyone was gone by the time I was done putting away the lectionary, mike, etc.
Next week, I’m going to ask the ministers that complete their prep duty early if they can join me in the foyer. Perhaps we can take turns greeting and invite a few that are not serving to join us.
By the way, I noticed a thread ealier that was discussing “greeters.” …wonder what their experiences are like??
Father, thank you for casting your gaze upon me…Jesus I Trust in You.
