At Midnight Mass, when do you like the hymn Silent Night sung?
An Entrance Hymn
An Offertory Hymn
A Communion Hymn
A Recessional Hymn

This is the lineup I use when I’m in charge:

O Come All Ye Faithful
Nativity Carol
Silent Night, O Little Town of Bethlehem
A Post-Communion Meditation for choir, a different one each year
Joy To the World

Usually, we sing “Silent Night” as the ministers process into the church. The church is dark, and the priest is carrying the Baby Jesus figurine to the manger. After Baby Jesus is put in the manger and the crèche is blessed, the lights come on, and we sing “O Come, All Ye Faithful.”

We usually sing it at Communion. “Joy to the World” is usually our recessional.
I’ve been away for recent Christmases but, IIRC, “O Come All Ye Faithful” has been the entrance hymn. Offertory has at times been “The Huron Carol” and at other times “Hark the Herald Angel Sing.”
