Ok - I know this is a silly question, but I have to ask.

I go to the adoration chapel at least 1 time a week. I know some people sign up for an hour there, but I have never committed to an hour because I am afraid that will be too much for me to follow through on.

Does it make a difference how long I am there? Sometimes it has been 1 hour, sometimes 30 or 15 minutes… but there have been times that I have to get home for my kids so I don’t even stay for 15 minutes.

Is it wrong to just stop in for a little while when I have so much going on ?

Any time spent with Jesus is not wasted. If you can’t commit to one hour, that’s why you don’t put your name down 🙂 It’s obviously a good thing when people can commit to the hour because it allows others to come and go, knowing that He won’t be left unattended.

I wasn’t really thinking that it was wasted time… I was thinking more on the lines of “shame on you - you can give Jesus more time than that”

But it doesn’t actually sound like you can. God does not ask the impossible of us.

Not at all. The fact that you make any time at all for Jesus is great, and I’m sure you benefit from it. Don’t compare yourself to others, just give what you can.

Kind of reminds me of the widow’s offering.
Proportionaly you are giving as much, or maybe more, by going in for a few minutes even though you are busy, compared to someone with all day free going in for an hour.
It all adds up.

If only more people were like you.

If you sign up to be a scheduled adorer, you have the responsibility to be there on time and for the hour you signed up for.

The person who is there the hour before your hour, is counting on you to relieve them.

But you don’t have to be a scheduled adorer,

Just go the times you can and for the amount of time you can.

Adoration is a privilege, not a cross.

I would say that it is probably more pleasing to God that you have been able to set the time aside to be with the Blessed Sacrament. Even if it is for less than one hour, it is more time then I set aside. I hadn’t even considered going there for shorter, unscheduled times until I read your question. I always thought of it as something for the people able to commit to it do for all of us. Thanks to your question I have, for the first time, considered going and spending time with the Blessed Sacrament. So contrary to the title of your thread, this has been anything but a silly question. You have quite profoundly made me reconsider how I view adoration. Why shouldn’t I do exactly what you do, I ask myself. Have I been using my inability to commit to a schedule as an excuse to not go to adoration? The answer might be maybe, if I’m being honest. I wouldn’t have even asked myself the question if not for your “silly” question. So thank you and may God bless you for what you’ve done.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts… makes me feel better.

Took2Long - I probably never would have done what I am doing if it were not for a friend making a suggestion to me years ago. They had an hour assigned, but suggested that I just stop in on my lunch. I didn’t come up with it on my own, but I do believe it does help me
